Publisher's summary

The second book in USA Today and New York Times best-selling author C.L. Wilson’s hugely popular, stunning, epic fantasy romance series about Ellysetta, the girl who would be queen, the Tairen Soul, and their eternal battle for true love in the mystical Fading Lands.

She feared the dark visions and the magic within her. And she dreamed of the miraculous love that could save her.

Like an enchanted fairy tale prince he stepped from the sky to claim her - the Fey King, her destiny, her one and true love.

But behind the mesmerizing beauty of Rain’s violet eyes Ellysetta saw the passionate hunger of the beast...and a sorrow, deep and ancient, that she alone could heal. Only for him would she embrace the frightening power that dwells within her. Only with him at her side could she confront the shadows that haunt her soul. For an epic battle looms on the horizon - and only united can they hope to turn back the armies of the darkness.

An all time favorite

I read or listen to this at least once a year and it always delivers the same perfection.

Quite a lovely feeling of a depth of story with out tedium or lacking .

I have enjoyed this story thus far, there has been no moments of the repeat plots or annoyances of shallow characters.. the romance has been quite tasteful and blending with the overall story.. (I like hot steamy Xxxx rated sex but so many stories seemed to mimic film porn where fast forwarding thru any talking or effort for story, plot and character development is what most do or want to because anything beyond the actual sex has the effect of just making you feel uncomfortable and that this is a stupid story and the actors would do better not speaking any words …) This story in my opinion showed class with the description of more steamy sexy moments ..
So if you have taken the time to read reviews, and how others rate books influence your chosen to purchase..
I think you will be happy with this story and feeling it is well worth the cost of money as well as the time you will give to listen.. and lack any depth of remorse that there something would have been more of a value !!

This should be popular

I don’t know why this series isn’t everywhere. It’s SO good! The world building is next level. And the romance is *chef’s kiss* good. Love the character development and the way the story is evolving. So so good!!

A great follow up to Lord of the Fading Lands!

I love the first book but I think I almost love this second book more. We start to see more and more of Ellysetta’s ability and her bond with rain is getting stronger.
Also glad this second audiobook was re-recorded too, so now book 1 and 2 have the same narrator. As with the first book, Abby Craden did a good job with the narration. Each character voices are easily distinguishable.

SOOOO U*N*B*E*L*I*E*V*A*B*L*Y GOOD, I can’t believe this isn’t famous!!

The world building is BETTER than George RR Martin (better because it’s absolutely unique, not medieval European history just with dragons added), the Romance is smoldering hot and actually Romantic, not just sexy times (you won’t be disappointed there either, tho), and the characters pull you in and the strength in the “strong female lead” is developing well. Also, THE CULTURE!!!
I’m totally in love with the Fae culture of this world! The language, the poetry, the emotional impact this beautifully developed Fae culture has on me makes me actually wish I could speak this language and study this culture - High Valeryian has nothing on this language! And I’m not normally the kind to do that - I don’t “speak” Valeryian, Dothraki, Elvish, Dwarvish, Na’Vi, Vulcan, Klingon or Wookie, other than the commonly repeated words (“Dracarys” and “WAAAAARGGGHHH” come to mind).
And I’m not really a person that likes poetry, and when authors try to make up their own poetry to fit in their story, it’s usually mediocre. But the common poetic phrases C.L. Wilson created that define certain terms are so poignantly beautiful, I wish they could be adopted into our real world.
I read this series quite a few years ago, and I had re-read what books I could find at the library several times, always falling in love with the world and the story each time, but even so, I hesitated when I saw it come up in Audible. It has been at least a decade or so since I last read it, I’ve read and listened to many other great series since then, and I’ve found old favorites don’t always live up to expectations. This is especially true when listening to an audio version of an old favorite book, as the narrator can either kill, or really add to the experience. I read some reviews that weren’t kind, but eventually I gave in, and OHHH AM I SO HAPPY I DID! The narrator was just fine - there a a lot of characters in this book as it develops, and she did a great job of giving them their own intonations that well described their character, particularly with the female characters.
I am VERY happily skipping off the get the rest of the series on Audible now, as I know I will listen to this series over and over in years to come. If only this book became popular enough to get made into a streaming series!!
