Publisher's summary

Thousands of years ago, fairies and humans fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear that they could not win, all of the fairies moved below ground, except for the 8th Family, the demons. Rather than surrender, they used a magical time spell to take their colony out of time and into Limbo. There they have lived for decades, preparing to exact their violent revenge on humans.

Now the time spell is unraveling, and demons are beginning to materialize without warning on Earth. If humans were to find out about them, all fairies would be exposed. To protect themselves, the fairies must predict when the next demon will materialize. But in order to do so, they will have to decipher temporal equations so complicated that even a great brain like Foaly can't understand them. But he knows someone who can: Artemis Fowl.

So when a very confused demon imp appears in a Sicilian theater, Artemis is there to meet him. But he is not alone. There is someone else who has unlocked the secrets of the fairy world and managed to solve complex mathematical problems as only a genius could. And she is just 12 years old.

another adventure

I just completed a book where the narrator has a range of 4 distinct voices for 8 characters.
what a joy it was to listen to this book and hear a talented narrator.
as for the story line...another good adventure.
can't wait for the next.

very well read by the reader

Nathaniel Parker does a great job at narrating the book. I was often amazed at the way he can can change his voice to be of different accents for the different characters. My one downside is that this story of Artemis Fowl wasn't as good as the others were to me but I loved how Artemis goes good in this one. Overall good job.

more fowl fun, another great ride!

Eoin Colfer has established great characters. It was fun to return to them and their relationships , with new ones added to the mix. I so enjoy listening to these performances with my son. The stories are well crafted and Nathaniel Parker is a joy to listen to. Have listened to all the Artemis Fowl books and have gone back for 2nd readings.

A Fantastic Addition to a Great Series

This is a wonderful addition to the story of Artemis Fowl and his adventures with the fairy people. All of our favorite fairies and humans return to make this a perfect addition to the series. This book should be read after the previous books as it builds off of them. I extremely enjoyed this book for its wonderful story line and the plot just keeps on moving.

Don't read, listen!

If you could sum up The Lost Colony in three words, what would they be?

Funny, imaginative, smart.

Which character – as performed by Nathaniel Parker – was your favorite?

I love the voice Parker gives to Mulch, the dwarf.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

My daughter and I love the Artemis Fowl books--the rich characters, diabolical plot twists, hilarious dry wit--but I never read them, I always listen to the audio. Nathaniel Parker reads the whole series, bringing all the characters to life through an amazing variety of accents, dialects and attitudes. Artemis, Holly the elf, Mulch the dwarf, Foalie the techie centaur are all more real to me because of Parker's remarkable performance. He's the best reader I've come across.

Great family listen.

The whole family enjoyed listening to this on our drives around on vacation. The little violence is not graphic so this is good for the younger kids too.
