Publisher's summary

Thousands of years ago, fairies and humans fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear that they could not win, all of the fairies moved below ground, except for the 8th Family, the demons. Rather than surrender, they used a magical time spell to take their colony out of time and into Limbo. There they have lived for decades, preparing to exact their violent revenge on humans.

Now the time spell is unraveling, and demons are beginning to materialize without warning on Earth. If humans were to find out about them, all fairies would be exposed. To protect themselves, the fairies must predict when the next demon will materialize. But in order to do so, they will have to decipher temporal equations so complicated that even a great brain like Foaly can't understand them. But he knows someone who can: Artemis Fowl.

So when a very confused demon imp appears in a Sicilian theater, Artemis is there to meet him. But he is not alone. There is someone else who has unlocked the secrets of the fairy world and managed to solve complex mathematical problems as only a genius could. And she is just 12 years old.

Another great Fowl novel

I love the Artemis Fowl series. Fun stories, masterfully read. Indeed, I can't think of another narrator I've enjoyed more -- he does a myriad of voices fantastically well.

This book introduces several new characters, in Barcelona and on the island of the demons. A fun mixture of friends and foes.

You have to love the demons

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this book to lots of kids and several adults. It's all around fun.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the introduction of the demons and particularly Number One.

Which character – as performed by Nathaniel Parker – was your favorite?

My favorite character has always been Butler. I love the way Nathaniel Parker gives him that touch of humor that helps keep things from getting too heavy. I love all of his voices.

Best so far!

This book is the best in the series so far! Lots of adventure and typical Artemis cunning, mixed with fledgling teenaged angst (but not enough to be cumbersome). Great ending!

Love this series

Sometimes it dragged a little and I wish there was at least two Narraters but I still enjoyed it very much and am on to the next one!

Still loved on the 4th listen!

Our 10 and 13 year old sons both love the Artemis Fowl series. The 10-year old has listened to this particular title at least 4 times and is just as rapt with each listen. We all enjoy hearing it.
It has a good amount of action and excitement without being scary. The reading is amazing, with a good separation of voices. The characters are diverse and complex, and there's a great balance of age-appropriate story and action.

One Great Audiobook

The Artemis Fowl books are some of the best young adult books around. The narrator does an excellent job with the voices and that's probably why I like them so much.

I find the humor to be right on. It's sort of like the upcoming book, Paraworld Zero, in that the characters use magic to transport themselves to different dimensions.

Something new in this book was the demons. Quite a lot of characterization was done with Number One, which was just wonderful. However, since this is an Artemis Fowl book, I was slightly disappointed at how much the author strayed from Artemis in order to tell us about the other characters.

Highly Entertaining !!

After finishing the Harry Potter audiobook series (with the fantastic narration by Jim Dale), I was hoping to find anything as similarly engaging. While this series is not as deep or complex, its certainly fun, exciting and highly entertaining. The narration by Nathaniel Parker is outstanding. I was hooked into Mr. Colfer’s world and felt a pang when the 5th audiobook ended. However, unlike the HP series, there is more still more Artemis Fowl to come, and I greatly look forward to the forthcoming 6th installment!
