"Unlike the rest of the series... Not the next book"
Would you try another book from Rick Riordan and/or the narrators?

Yes, absolutely just not one like this. This isn't like the normal 1st person book. It reads like a mixed diary on the ledge of being close to the other story. It's not as interesting, powerful or adventurous. It gives you insights to the characters though but the narrator jump isn't nearly as smooth. It's confusing and the book seems to jump around a lot.

What could Rick Riordan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Write the book as a follow up story or adventure the same way the other books are written. This one seems like a hodge podge throw together of scenes cut out from the other books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It just doesn't have a familiar feel to the other books. I didn't enjoy it. It didn't grab me the same way the other two did.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The adventures jump around too much and doesn't really get you into the characters as quickly. He starts drawing you into stories and then jumps to another like a short story reading. The narrators are also very important to an audio book. Jumping back and forth vs. using them all together makes it hard to connect to the book plus I'd just gotten used to the last narrator of the other books. I belive he was the same narrator who reads the nymph section with leo. Having new narrators start the book also makes it hard to connect.

    "Great additional stories"
If you could sum up The Heroes of Olympus: The Demigod Diaries in three words, what would they be?

    clever, imaginative, creative

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heroes of Olympus: The Demigod Diaries?

We liked the last story written by Rick's son. Amazing that a 16-year-old wrote it!

    Any additional comments?

These short stories by Rick Riordan are great additions to his novels. We've enjoyed reading each one that he's created.

    "Great story, Mediocre reading"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book: yes. The Audiobook: no.

What other book might you compare The Heroes of Olympus: The Demigod Diaries to and why?

Any other book in the series.

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

    Decent, Average, Mediocre

Was The Heroes of Olympus: The Demigod Diaries worth the listening time?

If you want more stories in Percy's world and can handle multiple narrators and odd accents, then yes, it's worth it.

    Any additional comments?

The 'Son of Magic' story was wonderfully written by Rick's son.

    "Don't waste your time"
What disappointed you about The Heroes of Olympus: The Demigod Diaries?

The first story about Luke was so boring. I forced myself to listen. Although it did answer my question about Thalia's shield, the rest was meaningless. The other stories were good, like the one about Percy and Leo. But I hated how they switched narrators.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I love Jesse Bernstein and I like Nick Chamian, and the other guy was okay but Aaron Groben was TERRIBLE. He ruined the story that Rick Riordan's son wrote. He gave the main character a disgusting voice that I couldn't take more than 15 minutes at a time. The story would have been much better if Nick Chamian or Jesse Bernstein read it.

    Any additional comments?

Bottom line- this book really isn't necessary. Aaron Groben was awful and this book really didn't give you much. But if you really want to read it get the print version.

    "What a collection!"
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This comment applies to audiobooks in general: I enjoy how both reading a book and hearing it narrated can result in getting two different stories from the same book. I'm not really talking about the "voices" that narrators use for each character. I'm talking about when a narrator puts emphasis on different words or uses different emotion for a line of dialogue than the way I imagined it when I read the book. I am especially intrigued when I understand a scene I read in a book in a certain way, and then I discover a completely different way to interpret the same scene when I hear to performed by a narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! I had expected to be just as entranced by these short stories as I was with the books, and I was not disappointed.

    Any additional comments?

I usually only get one audible a month, but as soon as I finished The Lightening Thief, I started on Sea of Monsters. I spent just about every spare moment listening to the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series followed by the Heroes of Olympus series. Before I knew it, I had finished The House of Hades. My friends may be happy about it because my self-imposed isolation is now over (I was so engrossed in the stories that I basically cut myself off from the world for the span of the 9 books), but I still wanted something to tide me over until The Blood of Olympus is released. The Demigod Diaries is a wonderful addition to Riordan's world of demigods. These short stories have the same excitement and heart that made me fall in love with the books. The stories allow readers to better understand some characters, learn what happened to others, and give us a peak into a "normal day" in the life of a demigod. It's hard to imagine any fan of the series not loving this book and its additional glimpses into the world Rick Riordan has created.

    "Disappointing"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    Children under 10

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Mark of Athena

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was really annoying, especially in the last part, he sounded too much like he was trying to imitate Leonard Nimoy.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None!

    Any additional comments?

You can skip this book entirely, it is not necessary for the Heroes of Olympus series.
