Publisher's summary

After being held prisoner for years, Artemis Fowl's father has finally come home. He is a new man, an honest man, much to Artemis's horror. He makes his son promise to give up his life of crime, and Artemis has to go along with it. But not until he has completed one last scheme.

Artemis has constructed a super-computer from stolen fairy technology. Called the "C Cube", it will render all existing human technology obsolete. He arranges a meeting with a powerful Chicago businessman, Jon Spiro, to broker a deal for the C Cube. But Spiro springs a trap, steals the C Cube, and mortally injures Butler. Artemis knows his only hope of saving his loyal bodyguard is to employ fairy magic; so once again, he must contact his old rival, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police.

It is going to take a miracle to save Butler, and Artemis's luck may just run out.

Entertaining

I liked how the fairies and Artemis are always trying to outsmart each other. Pecs & Chips are doofus-ly hilarious.

Fast-paced and witty!

We were pleasantly surprised by this series! As Harry Potter lovers, it's hard to find anything that measures up, but this was completely original! It's also hard to find stories that are just as entertaining to the adults in the house, as the children. I found myself giggling, and wanting to find out what would happen next!

First of all, the narrator is fabulous! He is nearly as good as Jim Dale, and that is high praise. He does all of these great accents, and gives the characters different voices.

The story is basically faires meet Bourne Identity! Sounds strange, but you actually get so caught up in all of the scenes, that you forget that the characters are centaurs, etc. Since I love imagination, I was delighted, when litte tidbits were thrown in as you went along, that reminded you of the dilemas that these mythical creatures might face. I also love witty humor, and this book has it's share of that!

Character/moral issues: Okay, so Artemis starts out a bad guy, and you really aren't entirely sure who to root for...but for slightly older children, it isn't that big of a deal....and I love how Artemis slowly gets a conscious, as the series goes along.

The drawback to these stories: the language. Okay, so it's not horrible: a damn here and a hell, there...but honestly, I don't know why the author would include this kind of language, in a children's story! Not necessary.:(

The characters are lovable! Butler is awesome! I came away wanting a "Butler"!
Lots of fun, overall.

Excellent, I love the character progression.

In my opinion the best aspect of a book series is the character progression and development through time and consecutive events. This book is an excellent part of the series, can't wait to read the next.

Great book

Still highly enjoying this series of books. They serve as an interesting pallet cleanser after large epic novels. The clever dialogue and cunning planning of the characters keeps you coming back for more of their adventures.

Awesome

Best narrator of a series I have heard thus far. Accents were on point and really gave the characters their own persona.
