Publisher's summary

In this inventive, short, yet perfectly formed novel inspired by traditional Norse mythology, Neil Gaiman takes readers on a wild and magical trip to the land of giants and gods and back. In a village in ancient Norway lives a boy named Odd, and he's had some very bad luck: His father perished in a Viking expedition; a tree fell on and shattered his leg; the endless freezing winter is making villagers dangerously grumpy. Out in the forest Odd encounters a bear, a fox, and an eagle - three creatures with a strange story to tell. Now Odd is forced on a stranger journey than he had imagined - a journey to save Asgard, city of the gods, from the Frost Giants who have invaded it. It's going to take a very special kind of twelve-year-old boy to outwit the Frost Giants, restore peace to the city of gods, and end the long winter. Someone cheerful and infuriating and clever . . . Someone just like Odd.

Great book to share with your kids

It is often hard to find books I can enjoy and my kids can read. This one fit that mold for me.

A light-hearted easy read

This story brings us on a journey to Asgard with a quirky and brave young hero named Odd. Through his eyes we get a fresh perspective on some of the funnier Norse myths. Great read for the whole family.

Wonderful Heartwarming Adventure

I listened to Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology first - which I loved ad an intro to Norse myth - and Odd's story is a perfect follow-up to fill the sad void I felt once I had finished. Gaiman's storytelling is real, magical, accessible, woven well, and inspiring. I will definitely be listening again, and recommending to friends (especially my quadriplegic friend, who will find a kindred in Odd's injury, adventurousness, his bravery and heart despite setbacks). A new favorite story, and the way Gaiman tells it is fantastic!

Neil Gaiman is a story teller

Mr Gaiman has an incredible imagination and it seems to carry him off like a treasure seeking Frost Giant. I actually can not imagine any other narrator for his stories because only he knows where all the dramatic pauses and interjection nuances belong.

Odd grows up in this unusual tale. As far as Mr Gaiman's stories I believe he has better tales. This was short and enjoyable.

My favorite Gaiman

I've listened to this book more times than I can count. Good story, interesting characters. I listen to it at night when I can't sleep. It's gentle, interesting and has a positive spin. I wish I could find another as good.

Odd and the Frost Giants

My favourite of Gaiman's audiobooks are those he reads himself. He has a wonderful voice for storytelling, and brings his already very descriptive prose to life. /Odd/ is not my favourite of his stories, but it is a good, quick listen, with an engaging story.
