Publisher's summary

A New York Times best-selling author-illustrator brings listeners into the woods to meet two young sisters and a strange bit of magic in this reimagining of the classic but little-known fairytale Snow White and Rose Red.

Snow and Rose didn't know they were in a fairytale. People never do....

Once, they lived in a big house with spectacular gardens and an army of servants.

Once, they had a father and mother who loved them more than the sun and moon.

But that was before their father disappeared into the woods and their mother disappeared into sorrow.

This is the story of two sisters and the enchanted woods that have been waiting for them to break a set of terrible spells.

Best-selling author-illustrator Emily Winfield Martin has created a world that sits on the border of enchantment, with characters who are grounded in real emotions that listeners will recognize in themselves.

Sister's bond and determination.

My 10 year old son thoroughly enjoyed this book, as did I. It was entertaining and mysterious from the beginning.

Beautiful

Lovely, whimsical story. The protagonists are girls with strong, complex personalities, and the plot addresses dealing with loss, transition, and change. I'm excited to read it to my kids when they're a little older.

Really loved!

Cute story about loving sisters! Fun adventure. Would recommend for an easy read. I hope there is a second part (as the text suggests)

Enjoyable 3.75 Stars

Yes, it took me over a year to finish listening to this book. Mostly because this was not a “retelling” of Snow & Red from my earliest memories; partly because I had to acclimate to the narrator.

I finally got lost in it and enjoyed it. Magical, mythical, and enchanting.

It’s the storytelling, not the story

I can see how a one paragraph synopsis of the story could be compelling to a publisher, or to readers. However, the storytelling is very weak. More than 3/4 of this book is pretty boring, nothing really happens until the very end - and you saw it coming from a mile away. The plot is moved forward multiple times by unrealistic behaviors from either humans or animals. The physical book is beautiful, but I wouldn’t pass on this one.

Snow & Rose

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I don't know if I'd change anything. The storyline was interesting and was close to the fairytale. Maybe it was the narrator who was just ok.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Spoilers possible. When Snow and Rose met the Bear. The begin was a little slow going it was good going in.

What three words best describe Cassandra Campbell’s performance?

Like I said she was just okay.

Could you see Snow & Rose being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Maybe a movie. I'd say some girls that are unknown.

Any additional comments?

I may try to read something else by Emily Winfield Martin.
