Publisher's summary

One of Cardinal Ratzinger's most important and widely read books, this volume is a revised second edition with an improved translation and an in-depth preface by the Cardinal. As he states in the preface, since this book was first published over 30 years ago, many changes and significant events have occurred in the world, and in the Church. But even so, he says he is firmly convinced that his fundamental approach in this book is still very timely and crucial for the spiritual needs of modern man. That approach puts the question of God and the question about Christ in the very center, which leads to a "narrative Christology" and demonstrates that the place for faith is in the Church.

Thus, this remarkable elucidation of the Apostle's Creed gives an excellent, modern interpretation of the foundations of Christianity. Ratzinger's profound treatment of Christianity's basic truths combines a spiritual outlook with a deep knowledge of Scripture and the history of theology.

Brilliant!

Everything PBXVI wrote is brilliant. This book is no exception. I Love it, even though a portionis very heady. I highly recommend it for individuals who are educated (having some philosophical training will always help when reading his work!).

A wonderful book

A great book that I found developmental and maturative for a young man coming of age such as myself. I found this book to be highly intelligent and I found great relation with the message. I love Pope Benedict XVI and I further highly recommend this book.

Another Outstanding Experience with Pope Benidict

“Introduction to Christianity” is another outstanding read by Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Benedict uses the “Apostle’s Creed” to provide an in-depth and scholarly discussion on the breadth and reality of Christianity and the human experience with God. A must read for the “Catholic in the PEW” to explore with Pope Benedict the reality and wonder of our Catholic faith. This is a heavy-duty exploration and do not let “Introduction” fool you, this is deep and substantial. Experienced as an Audio Book.

Excellent Book

I found his insights on the historical significance of the trinity in respect to the God of reason from antiquity to be very informative and enlightening.

Introduction does not mean pedestrian.

This is a classic! Ratzinger’s dynamic presentation of Christianity is sure to convince the objective seeker, and nourish the seasoned believer.

great book poorly narrated

This modern classic is sadly read by someone who clearly is unaware of Catholic theology, the pronunciation of technical words, or have a decent cadence. when I first heard it, I thought “is this read by a program?” because it definitely feels that way when listening. Hopefully books like this will get better narrators in the future, to read it with the power the text demands.

Missing audio

This recording is missing two lines of text at the beginning of part two chapter one. Page 193 of the book, “it seems both presumptuous and foolish to assert that one single figure who is bound to disappear farther and farther into the mists of the past is the authoritative center of all history.” This text is missing in the recording.

May he Rest In Peace

I can’t recommend this book enough if you wish to dive deeper into the meaning and history of the faith. I, like many modern Christians, found myself resting upon a sort of superficiality in my faith in Christ, and Ratzinger provides layers upon layers of depth, which I found to strengthen not only my belief, but my awe in God. He may have been the Pope of the Catholic Church, but by all means, the book is for the entirety of the Christian Church.

Piercingly accurate theology

I could take or leave the voice of the narrator, but the theology is most excellent!
