Publisher's summary

New York Times and USA Today best seller Alyssa Cole’s second Runaway Royals novel is a queer Anastasia retelling, featuring a long-lost princess who finds love with the female investigator tasked with tracking her down.

Makeda Hicks has lost her job and her girlfriend in one fell swoop. The last thing she’s in the mood for is to rehash the story of her grandmother’s infamous summer fling with a runaway prince from Ibarania, or the investigator from the World Federation of Monarchies tasked with searching for Ibarania’s missing heir.

Yet when Beznaria Chetchevaliere crashes into her life, the sleek and sexy investigator exudes exactly the kind of chaos that organized and efficient Makeda finds irresistible, even if Bez is determined to drag her into a world of royal duty Makeda wants nothing to do with.

When a threat to her grandmother’s livelihood pushes Makeda to agree to return to Ibarania, Bez takes her on a transatlantic adventure with a crew of lovable weirdos, a fake marriage, and one-bed hijinks on the high seas. When they finally make it to Ibarania, they realize there’s more at stake than just cash and crown, and Makeda must learn what it means to fight for what she desires and not what she feels bound to by duty.

Loved this story

In my humble opinion this story was great. Very easy pacing and a sexy slow burn love story. It’s nice to see woman seen from different angles. I felt I understood myself better. Great writing, great storytelling, and great performance. It was worth my money.

Disappointed

I loved the other books in this series, but I was really disappointed in this one. The story took was too long to get started and then ended way too quickly, with many plot points left completely unanswered. Still a fun listen, but I'll still be fuming over what it could have been for a while...

The actor is terrible

The actors voices all sound the same! It’s difficult to know who she is reading bc I think she even mixes up the voices. I found it hard to get into the story of it’s her boring monotone reading. If I give this book a chance I will read it. I really hate the performance and voice

Not a cheesy lgbtq+ love story

This is a great book. I found it by looking for some in the LGBTQ+ romance section. I enjoyed listening to it. It never got boring in my opinion. However, the ending was extremely abrupt. I feel it left questions unanswered. I would like to know if a relationship continued or not. Or what happened as far as the fake marriage.

This story immerses you into their love story and their world. Although, the voices could be differentiated better, the story was one yo remember.

I Love It! Will not disappoint

⭐⭐⭐⭐"How to Find a Princess” is an adorable slow-burn romance written by Alyssa Cole. I was introduced to "A Princess in Theory" and "Once Ghosted, Twice Shy" and I fell in love with her writing. So I knew this novel would not disappoint. This novel is the second book in her Runaway Royals series, but it stands alone and can be read without reading the first. Makeda Hicks is a kind woman who aims to please others. Her life will change when she is laid off from her job and then, a few moments later, dumped by her girlfriend. Then to add to the drama, her grandmother wants to claim her princess status from a small country. Makeda's only memory of the throne is the embarrassment caused by her mother. Her mother made such a huge deal of it when she was younger it caused a strain in their relationship and she does not want this title. Her grandmother caused the princess to get away and so her family is full of shame. She will do anything to restore her family’s honor and return the princess, whether Makeda agrees or not.

This one had a lot of layers and personality for me. I loved it. The difference between Bez and Makeda was everything. Bez has this "goody-two-shoes'' vibe going on. While Makeda is more of a people pleaser and loves to save others. She is very shy while Bez is a strong and "matter of fact" type person. It really shows that sometimes we need someone who is different from us in our lives. It also teaches us that differences are ok and can help well together. On the surface, this book is cheerful romantic, but if we dig in deeper, the book explores some real-life hardcore topics. Bez's job operates with a colonizing mindset. This addresses colonialism in Africa and its effects. It also gives the LGBTQIA+ community a sense of representation. It does wrap us a little quickly, but overall, I love it!

Excellent!

I really enjoy this author’s foray into queer romance and the way she plays with the familiar romance trope or royalty. It’s a great listen! Highly recommend!

Delightful

How To Find A Princess by Alyssa Cole 👑🛳🌊

"Are you trying to save me?"
"Yes,"
"How would you do it?"
~ Chapter 8

💘🌎👑🏳️‍🌈
●Lesbian/Queer/Pan Representation
●Neurodivergent Representation
●Romance between 2 women
●Black leads
●Fake marriage
●Dual POV
● One bed trope

Go into this story blind. I found myself falling in love with the secret princess & bodyguard. The lore of the seaside fictional country the leads are traveling to, this story will be loved by anyone who's seen "The Princess Diaries," and "Anastasia," but black and gay. There's a voyage & so much wonderful romantic tension!

"Boundaries are not to keep people out, but to keep you safe. Giving doesnt always mean being taken advantage of" ~ Chapter 14 ☮️

The romantic vibes are toaty warm, but not smutty in nature. I'd give this book 🌶🌶🌶 3/5

Spicy scene ~
Chapter 15
Chapter 16

💘 This is a cute romance
The audiobook made the dual POV feel like a mini movie in my mind; which was refreshing.
