Publisher's summary

If God is holy, then he can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then he can’t sin against you. If he can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make him the most trustworthy being there is? Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news. Here, we will see that God is not like us. He is different. He is holy. And that’s exactly what makes him trustworthy. As it turns out, God being “holier than thou” is actually the best news in the world, and it’s the key to trusting him.

change is going to come

loved this book. I'm glad I decided to listen to it cause if I didn't I might not have been able to finish it cause of my busy schedule. I was in an sinful relationship with someone and everytime I listened to the book it reminded me of God's holiness and that he wasn't ANY where in that mess. her voice has a nice tone and gives emphasis when needed. thank you Jackie.

Didn’t address the issues I hoped it would, but it’s still excellent

Typically, poetry is emotional. Jackie Hill Perry’s biography, “Gay Girl Good God” was passionate and poetic, but she didn’t seem to want to debate. When making theological statements about homosexuality, she would make brief statements quoting another author.

Not so with “Holier Than Thou”. Perry really is a poet. You could flip to a random page of this book, point blindly at the page, and lift an earth shattering quote that casts old ideas in fresh ways. She is passionate, but her logic and reason resound most strongly quoting everyone from C. S. Lewis and R. C. Sproul to Tony Evans.

Even in the Introduction, Perry floors the reader with perception and wit. She strikes hard on the jaded chord, the unsaid instinct that, if we turn our back, we will be Cain’s next Abel. God’s holiness should be the strongest argument for his trustworthiness, so why do we transfer our distrust of people to God?

She marches systematically through proofs of God’s holiness and its implications, but she didn’t really return to the question of why people seem to lose trust in God. Don’t get me wrong. I agreed with her and found much of the content to be encouraging, I just didn’t feel that she addressed this concern with adequate gusto or emphasis. I would like to read it again. I may have missed this emphasis in all her imagery.

God, is Holy.

I've grown up, always knowing that God is Holy, that He is Holy, holy, holy. This book, was a beautiful, powerful reminder of all that that means, of what it is to say that God is holy, and of where that should put Him in our minds. Never behind the golden calves that haunt us. never behind our own idols and self. God is holy.
This, is beautiful. The way Jackie strings word together until they become poetry, crashing truths into your heart, word after word echoing after as the next ones ring is incredible. If you want to be reminded what it means when God says, He is holy, holy, holy, listen. We cannot fully know, in this life what that means, but I am thankful for the ways that God opens the hearts and the minds of those He has gifted in writing and in words, like RC Sproul and Jackie Hill Perry to speak about things and as weapons to open our eyes a little further about Who our God is.

Oh the holiness of God!

Thank you, Jackie! Always diving deeper into the word after any of your books or studies. Holier Than Thou certainly does just that. It was exceptionally clear on how holy God is and I am not. Although, we will one day be in His presence and we will see Him in His glory and holiness. Whew! 10/10 recommend!

Jackie has stolen my heart with the way that she can break down scripture and explain things with a Gift only God can give.

Honest and Informative

Good book. Learned a lot about what it means to sin against our god and why he is considered so high and mighty

Hands down, a must read for Christians!

I was recommended this book by my mentor to read as apart of our weekly meetings. I am usually hesitant to read Jackie's work, not because I don't think well of her, but because she's can be more poetic in her writing and speaking. Despite it's beauty, that style can be hard for me to grasp sometimes. I was amazingly suprised at the readability of this book. Yes she poetic and this topic is a bit lofty (as in not easily grasped), but this book was very plain to me and I appreciated it. It read almost conversationally, helped by her being the narrator. I now feel I can join in what the writer of the forward Charlie Dates says, "I read this book and wanted more of God" Thank you Jackie :)

Unique Words

Jackie as usual has a way of being both blunt but insightful at the same time! Her gift of using words shines through! She has made a usually complex subject more understandable without making the reader seem unintelligent! The Body of Christ has received a great gift for continuing our walk in Him!
