Publisher's summary

They say that history is written by the victors. But what if history - or what we have come to know as history - has all along been written by the wrong people? What if everything we've been told is only part of the story? What if it's the wrong part?

In this groundbreaking new work, Mark Booth embarks on an enthralling intellectual tour of our world's secret histories. Starting from a dangerous premise - that everything we've been taught about our world's past is corrupted, and that the stories put forward by the various cults and mystery schools throughout history are true - Booth produces nothing short of an alternate history of the past 3,000 years.

History is more than a list of things that have happened; it's a measure of consciousness and experience. And in The Secret History of the World, Booth's take on history is relentless, charging through time and space and thought in interdisciplinary fashion. Embracing cognitive science, religion, psychology, historiography, and philosophy, he draws a new timeline, and a huge swath of our cultural heritage that has long been hidden is restored. From Greek and Egyptian mythology to Jewish folklore, from Christian cults to Freemasons, from Charlemagne to Don Quixote, from George Washington to Hitler - Booth shows without a doubt that history as we know it needs a revolutionary rethink, and he has 3,000 years of hidden wisdom to back it up.

Esoteric research compilation

What did you like best about The Secret History of the World? What did you like least?

The narrator did a good job in relaying the author's views on esoteric research about esoteric topics.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most: Saturn-Day, Sun-Day, Moon-Day explainations was cool. Author forgot Tuesday, Wednesday, Thors-Day and Friday though, so an incomplete picture.
Least: This was not a history of the world - it was a history of people having deep thoughts and the author's compilation of parts that seemed to somewhat mesh.

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

Only one character reading about esoteric researchers esoteric research.

Could you see The Secret History of the World being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Hell no. This would at best be a Dan Brown sub-sub-plot feeder.

Any additional comments?

I almost wonder how many times "esoteric" was used. Yeah, we get it, it's small populations' research but move ON!

Remarkable

To be listened to many times over. The reader is as good as it gets. I'll be looking up other books read by him just for the delivery he gives.

Fascinating, entertaining, mind altering

What did you love best about The Secret History of the World?

The author's knowledge and clarity, the mind bending, intuitively true connections he makes, the window-opening effect on the mind and the spectacular narration.

What other book might you compare The Secret History of the World to and why?

It's unique in my experience.

Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Always wonderful. In this one, above and beyond: it's better than reading it yourself. Pure pleasure.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too many to count.

Any additional comments?

The quality of the thinking and writing is so clearly outstanding that, even though many of the assertions are way out there, you have to consider that they might be true. A seriously paradigm changing book. An amazing piece of work.
