Publisher's summary

To prove herself, she’ll brave anything. To protect her, he’ll risk everything.

As the only woman in King Robert the Bruce’s Bodyguard Corps, Mairin Mackenzie is eager to prove herself. When the king proposes a mission to sow the seeds of civil war in England, Mairin jumps at the chance, even though returning there means confronting the nightmarish trauma of her past.

But to her frustration, the Bruce decides to send a second bodyguard with her - Niall, the only Englishman in the Corps. Although Niall kindles a surprising heat within her, Mairin has sworn to hate the English until the day she dies.

When she is faced with a chance at personal vengeance, can she trust in her strength, even if it means ignoring what’s in her heart?

Niall Beaumore fears this mission will be his undoing. After six long years in the Bruce’s Corps, this is his best chance to show how deep his allegiance to Scotland runs. Yet, being paired with Mairin is far more dangerous than anything he’s faced before. From the moment he laid eyes on her, Niall has been captivated by the fire behind Mairin’s dove-gray gaze.

After failing to protect those he cares about once before, he vows never to let Mairin come to harm. But when duty clashes with desire, they'll both be forced to choose between an unexpected love and the very fate of Scotland's freedom.

This full-length Scottish historical romance is part of the Highland Bodyguards series, but can also be listened to as a stand-alone novel. Buy the audiobook today!

BRILLIANT in every way!!!

This book stole my heart for so many reasons. Mairin is the BEST female character. The epitomy of inner strength despite her devastating past. I love how the author made Mairin vulnerable, anxious, fearful, traumatised, and let her STAY vulnerable and anxious while fighting for her inner self. Mairin is not just "magically" transformed. She stays beautifully broken but this characteristic is turned into a special and great quality because of how Niall treats the woman he has been in love with for a few years with deep respect and admiration. He sees her as a perfect woman. He is a man of integrity in every way. It's imposdible to not love this couple and this excellent book. And the historical background is so wonderfully woven into this sweet, tender, and passionate love story.

Another Outstanding Story

So happy with this story. It was everything I had hoped it would be. The historical detail is incredible. And weaving an incredible romance through this fascinating history is something Emma Prince does very well. And Tim’s narrating turns me to butter. 😜
I could listen to him all day.

been waiting

This is the story I have been waiting for. Knew Niall was in love with Merin from the start and it was so nice to see his patience rewarded. So satisfying to see Merin get some revenge on her tormentors.

throughly enjoyable!

this book out of all of them thus far is the one I was most excited to read. It was obvious when Logan first brought Mairin to the camp in book 5 that Naill was attracted to her. To see that he never wavered in his love for her and that his respect grew as well was heart warming. Mairin on the other hand struggled to understand her own feelings regarding Niall . His understanding and respect for who she really is, is one of my favorite aspects of this story. This one is worth a credit and a listen!

This story was the best one, with great narration.

Another amazing story! I think I like this one more than the others even. The narration is great, and it’s easy for the listener to follow the story because of it
Think this one was my favorite, because of slices of history that are woven in to an exciting storyline where are you already know the main characters from prior stories.
