This book does an excellent job filling in the gaps you may have in you fitness and nutrition knowledge. It is the perfect book to listen to after you finish "Bigger Leaner Stronger: The Simple Science of Building the Ultimate Male Body." I highly recommend it. The content, writing style, and narration are all top notch.
motivational, informative, interesting
I am almost done with this book, and I am really loving it. It helps to clarify so many myths in the fitness industry, and gives great tips for someone who is serious (or even curious) about improving ones capabilities to get lean and build muscle. Great book, and I look forward to reading more work by this author.
I did not get the feeling that the author was trying to sell fitness voodoo magic with this book. This book has a lot of good do's and don'ts for anyone beginning a workout program to someone more advanced. It gave me some good insight into everything from training to nutrition. Although I did not agree with everything the author said, it did give me some new ideas. The narration was not award winning, but better than a lot of novels I've listened to.
This is the 2nd book I've bought by Mike Matthews. I also bought Bigger Leaner Stronger, and bought both of them on Audible so I could listen as I workout, mow the lawn, or drive in the car. I was such a huge fan of Bigger Leaner Stronger, I had to get another of his books.
Much of the information is the same here, but not all of it. I definitely learned things in the book that weren't covered in Bigger Leaner Stronger. What I like best about this book is the way it is organized into the 50 myths, and they are broken down into cardio myths, muscle myths, nutrition myths, etc. So it's easy to reference a certain section for review. That is why I call this my Encyclopedia of Muscle. A truly great reference. Had I read this in college, I'd probably look as good as Mike does now (maybe). Thanks Mike.
Very enjoyable listen. This book isn't necessary if you have his main books (Bigger, Leaner, Stronger), but it did contain some useful info that made it worthwhile for me (e.g. drinking alcohol on a diet plan).
I bought this book as someone starting to get back into working out and overall fitness. The book has a lot of good explanations of the myths without getting bogged down in too much detail. But there is enough, with scientific studies, not to become boring.
As a person who has always had a hard time sticking to a workout schedule, the book has helped me stay engaged and correct past mistakes. It did not take long to get used to the narrator as well. I also bought the hard copy to have as a reference.
Classics, history, historical fiction, marketing, Napoleonic stuff and of course 'Boys own Adventure'. This is my bent. Occasional self help as well.
If you are thinking of making a change to your body, then listen to this book. Might just save you money, time and pain. No quick fix but debunks some of the myths of building the body of your dreams. Don't just listen to this book as you need to do some more research which will probably confuse you but it is a great start.
I Thought Wrong
Myths 1-50... all of them are memorable, but the ones that stick out are as follows:
- Carbs are bad.
- Eating late is bad.
- Starving will put your body into "starvation mode"
- High reps equals lean muscles
These are very small titles and Mike Matthews goes very in depth with every myth and provides legitimate research to help convince you the truth behind the science of being a stronger and healthier individual.
This is not really applicable, but I would say that the chapter on how to lift properly was my favorite portion of the book.
How much do you not know?
I loved listening to this book! This audio book made my commute to and from work a breeze. This is very easy to follow and I want everyone to know how great this book is. I spent years making mistakes in and out of the gym and I wish I would have heard of this book sooner. This is a definite buy and I have recommended this to many friends and family members. A huge plus is that the author, Mike Matthews, has answered all my questions so far with a quick response. He legitimately strives to help others achieve their goals.
A must read if you want to know the truth about fitness, the myths that are holding you back and what it really takes to get super fit in the most efficient and effective way.
