Any Actual fitness or diet advice would have been nice. No Sugar No Grains, Lift free weights... That's IT !
Two of the 4 Covers major selling points DON'T EXIST in the book
NO Fitness Advice.
His store does inspire.
No Dirt, other than he hates all but private gyms and all trainers other than himself can't be trusted and are incompetent out only for money.
And it is very confidential. He keeps all the useful information to himself
The author tries on many occasions to make the narration sound spontaneous with little anecdotes. It doesn't work. Bad Idea.
Tell the Truth.
Its your standard Sports biography all about his life and how great he is. Standard " I was born in a log cabin" stuff and I did it all myself except for the help from some of the Top Doctors and endurance athletes Blah blah.
Its a good listen despite being totally misleading about the content.
A more fundamented concept. He brings the same already known protein + fat based diet that tones of authors did and honestly there are better books if you want to follow an Atkins style diet (Atkins itself or TNT...). By the way, Atkins himself died of a heart attack, not a good sign.I don't believe the "diet" - or eating style - he proposes is good for everyone I personally tried it several times before reading his book and lost weight in the first 2 weeks only, then the body seemed to adapt and keep the weight. Besides, my skin was extremely oily and I looked older and tired and I literally felt dirty inside. The advice for exercises is also not new, it basically says you get out from it what you put into it.
Maybe I'm just the wrong target since I study nutrition and have read several books on the topic. But anyways, less story and more concept and more practical advice would have been good.
None in particular, although he has nice stories, I bought the book looking for a different content.
Vinnie is a funny guy with nice stories to tell. It'sjust not what I was expecting.
This book was more about Vinnie then fitness. He talks about his young life, being in football, being a fitness instructor, sex with customers, cancer, his bike races etc.
What little fitness he discusses items such as this: calories in does not equal calories out. A clear violation of thermodynamics. Do not eat grains or sugar but all the bacon and fat you want (a modified Atkin's diet) which is unhealthy in the long run.
No just his future books!
Vinnie thinks he is a comedian so he continually broke script from his written books to crack unfunny jokes.
Disappointment that I wasted money on the book and Vinnie profited from it.
Don't waste a penny on the audio.
Great book to get inside the life of personal trainers.....and I especially loved the part that broke down how fitness clubs and mega gyms run.....very inspirational!
Inspirational, Educational, Entertaining
Having Vinnie read the book gives additional interest and authenticity to the material. The tone of his voice and emotion that comes through take the content to a whole new level.
I absolutely wanted to listen to this book in one sitting.
Vinnie adds a great deal of additional anecdotal content to the audio book that you wouldn't get from the print edition. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in being entertained, enlightened and informed.
I am so motivated after reading this book! Loved it!! Vinnie has lived a hard life but was able to find motivation in everything. Even using some of that negativity to fuel him to cross the finish line of the furnace creek 508. So inspired!
All you need to know about this book is grains and sugar. That's his main point the first few chapters and then the rest is his life story. He tries to disprove the calories out/calories in saying but all he does is support it. If you don't eat sugar or grains, you will be eating a less calories because protein, fat, veggies, and fruit will make you feel full and satisfied. That in turn makes you lose weight. I don't like how he bashed the calorie in/calories out concept.
Really cool book which is a memoir of a personal trainer. Funny, engaging, informative. Great story telling and narrations. But the best part was the digressions between the story. And the little bit extra ;)
