Publisher's summary

With the Builder threat behind them, the time has finally come for Jason and his team to hit the road.

Eager to get back to the adventuring he’s been longing for, Jason is excited to not be at the center of world-changing events. But before he goes, one last attempt to pull him into politics has him leaving Rimaros with a strong final impression.

With new places to visit and new people to meet, the remnants of recent events have scarred the land and left lingering dangers behind. It's a busy time for adventurers willing and able to fight with monsters. Threats that once loomed in the background start coming to the fore, and the team prepares to join the fight. Their angelic new adversaries are patient, powerful, and remorseless, using such unconscionable strategies that mass slaughter is only the beginning.

Jason is forced to confront that his growing power may give him more in common with his foes than his friends. While this opens a path to uncovering the methods and objectives of their enemies, it also brings him to their attention. To them, this makes him yet another tool to be used. But when conflict spills into epic battle, they'll be the latest to discover that challenging Jason Asano is a very bad idea.

Where are my 47 Epilogues?

This fantastic addition to the series is engaging and smartly paced from beginning to end.
The only thing I can even complain about is not anything to do with the book, but to do with the lack of numerous epilogues.
Since books 3 & 6 ended in much the same way, I was looking forward to seeing the wider world from the POV of various other characters. Instead, I have to settle for a satisfying and fulfilling ending.

You've masterfully brought so many not-so-main characters to life, that there are pressing questions about the world you've created that now need answering.
What's going on in the wider astral?
How did Dawn's possible reunion with her parents go?
What's happening with the Mercers & the Gellers in Greenstone?
(I hate him, but still...) What evil is Thaddwick Van Suckenstein unleashing upon the world?
What's the deal with Clive's Eel Farming Parents?

All of these questions could have been answered in the litany of epilogues I expected to wrap up this 3rd trilogy in the series, but NOOO... my expectations have been dashed and sundered against reality.

All I have now are the burning questions that might only peripherally matter to the main plot, the months of wait for book 10, and the glorious closure of one plot arc opening directly into the epic promise of another.

Respectfully,
Thanks for the expansion.
I'm genuinely looking forward to the next one with great anticipation.

NINE books later, and it's so good!

I am so sad I've finished and have to wait for the next book! This story, characters, AND narrator are Gold! Really, the narrator is amazing! there are so many characters, and I never have to question who is talking.

A Glorious Return to Form and more.

We see Jason at his absolute best in this book, the interpersonal relationships. The team being supportive while also knowing some troubling issues can’t be faced directly with him and support is often done for people behind the scenes. The combat is not the highlight of this story and that is OKAY. We are here for the journey, the growth of a character and his relationships with those around him (friends and strangers) in a magical world that feels so so incredibly full of life. I truly enjoyed the low-stakes adventure/traveling lifestyle we got to see in this book and can’t emphasize enough how much I want to see more of it. The pit fight, the cooking and preparing food, the taverns, the helping the little people. We’ve been missing that since the first few books.

why do I now have to leave a headline?

We're 9 books in. you know what you're getting if you don't, go back and start at book 1.

The band is back together so things start to really hit but only towards the end. Setup for the next book looks promising.

Good

Id say the first 3 books were better but this is a improvement from the last book. It starts of slow but by the end its quite good the ending as in like the last chapter leaves things to be desired. But otherwise a good addition to the series. Would like to see more action with the whole team tho

Very Fun Read

I keep coming back for Jason's growth, and this book did not disappoint. I recognize the complaints in the other comments, but at this point you're either here for the ride or you aren't.

it passed, I didn't get angry at the author.

over all plot: is not progressed till much later in the book. The plot does develop enough in this book to keep my interest. I'm so glad that the author made the choice to write to that point.

this feels forced

let me start by saying it's good definitely a credit worthy book. that being said compared to the rest it's crap. I get we are going for God/astral king but jeesh it feels hollow.blike your setting him up to be the next builder. the depth that was there in the earlier books feels less so. also feels like we have crossed into cheat code territory. no real sense of danger for any character anymore either. idk I'm torn. I definitely had to focus my attention to follow along which is a first.
