Fun and worth a listen

This was a fun book, a bit short for my taste but overall I felt it was worth a credit.

If you enjoy anime-type stories, then you'll probably enjoy this book.

The narrators were fantastic and did an excellent job.

A good book but

Honestly I enjoy the book a lot, though I will admit I was/am debating on it being a 3 star.

I like the characters, the world sounds interesting though I think we need more details to flush it out. Same with the magic in like how there is healers, elemantists and a few other types though I hope each are explored a bit further.
I also hope the main character continues as is, he is powerful I just hope it doesn't to go to far.

my main issue really is how fast things developed, yes it's a shorter book which is fine. but how quickly some events happened felt a bit off. The reason i bumped it to four stars is because none of the events are to major this time so I felt it was a good starter book.

I look forward to continue listening to more of this series.

Actually quite good

The story is both interesting and engaging. The characters show some depth, which can often be lacking in these types of books. It’s not going to win any awards, but it is quite a fun listen.

Enjoyable, not amazing

I enjoy harem novels, although the quality of such is often not the best.
For most of this book I couldn't even tell that it was a harem novel. It seemed like a pretty standard "modern below-average guy dropped into a fantasy world" novel, with nothing truly unusual or innovative. However, I did enjoy the colorful characters. Merlin is darling, and Marouk is such a fun character! The women are not just cookie cutter characters that seem like clones of each other, devoid of personality; they are distinct and interesting.

Towards the end, I thought "gee, this doesn't seem like a harem novel at all. There's just hints of a blossoming romance between the MC and one woman in the book." Then BAM! Squeezed into the very end of the book is an abrupt gut-punch of a hard left turn deep into harem territory.

That seems like an odd twist. Don't get me wrong. If the story had gotten to that point fairly early on and it was a key element throughout the story, I would be 100% on board with that. But it's kind of like watching a Disney movie and then seeing the hero get violently disembowled. It's jarring and doesn't seem to fit. I feel it would be better either to set the full-on harem tone early on, or to stick with the slow, gentle build up, even if that meant waiting until the second book to develop the beginnings of a harem.

Really enjoyed it

I really found the story entertaining. Its relatively light reading but still fun. The narration was done very well, and I was able to stay in the story. The transitions didnt distract you from the story like other dual narrations.

I am giving a good review, however...

I liked the premise of the story. It felt a little short, but it did deliver the feeling it promised on the description. Narration was excellent to the point that I wasn't really even thinking about the narrators, as I usually do, but just enjoyed the story they were telling.

Somehow I do feel like something was lacking from the story. Maybe it's my preference on overpowered main characters, but it felt like the mc wasn't using his power nearly enough. I guess you could have different rules explaining this behaviour or saying some character attributes or personal failings with the mc caused this. I personally had a million different ideas on how he could use his power in the wilds or even just experiment with it.

I like the fact that the mc was written in a way that prevents him from showing of his powers too much, but I wish that when he can, he would be more... awesome(?). The title gave the feeling of an op caster, but so far the feeling I have of the mc is of an unimaginative confused kid who is just going with the motions and somehow has no idea how magic could maybe be used (no games, no fantasy books, no fantasy movies? where did this kid live?)

I like the archer, although her constant "anger" at things seems a bit unexplained. Hopefully further stories will expand on this more than just "she lost tom".
The biggest lost opportunity is that the healer seems an empty shell of a mary sue. Only existing to fill out the needs of the mc. No real devotion to gods is really shown in actions, only in words and she accepted easily the fact the her wish for help in the form of a mage came true, but then was surprised the god came to say hi. Also, why would the god care? The healer doesn't seem that devout... maybe in the next book we will learn.
I do enjoy the orc dude with two shield and the agenda of showing the world that orc can be kind and civilized by bashing peoples heads in with two shield! I do wish he also had more interesting things like fun hobbies such as poetry or knowledge of history or cooking or something fancy. Just to give him more character.

To summarize. It was good, but too short to make anything that happened matter to the reader. The book does not stand well alone and clearly needs more "episodes". It feels like the first part of a cheap tv series. I want to love it, but so far I just think it's good.

I am going to give the second book a chance. But with so many great books out there, some of which the same author wrote, "good" just doesn't cut it anymore.

absolutely great

I absolutely loved it. I was waiting a while on this book series to be started on audible, and now I just have the slow simmering wait unlike the slow wait of wondering if the stoves even been lit, lol.

Magical Other World

A regular guy becomes a illegal mage in a parallel universe. He joins a adventure guild "Shadow Foxes" who are down on their luck. With his magic he helps his newly made friends kill monsters and gain bounty to make a name for themselves within the guild ranks. An entertaining start to this series. Ends on a cliff hanger to make you need to read the next book to see what happens next. Definitely not a stand alone novel. I would recommend if you enjoy fantasy dungeon fighting books.
