Great story and beginning to the series!

What a wonderful fantasy story! I enjoyed a lot about it but my favorite is Marccus and his weapons. What a cool Idea! I enjoyed both the broody Marccus and adventurous Morrigan. Both have interesting lives leading up to their meet. Then things become more wild as they try to outsmart each other and their boss’ or ex friends. I enjoyed the add of Ash—wish there was more of him since he added some fun to the story.

I did listen to this on audio. The narration was well done and I am looking forward to the next.

All the swoons mixed with all the danger

I loved Maccus and Morrigan’s fated mates romantic suspense story with a side of mythical creatures. I loved the contrast and similarities between Maccus and Morrigan, the strength, the softness, and the honor. This rollercoaster ride of excitement with so many twists and turns it was hard to put down story has all the swoony swoons while also pulling at your heartstrings with all the feels. Maccus is a fallen angel who first fought for heaven and then was powerful enough to get kicked out of hell. He is the “head” of the Forgotten Brotherhood, a band of uber powerful paranormal assassins who kill the worst of other paranormal entities. The archangel Gabrielle tries to hire him to kill Morrigan with the promise of removing him from Heaven’s most wanted list. Morrigan is a human who is a bounty hunter for hell. Lucifer hires her to kill Maccus with the promise of the cancellation of her contract and if she fails she ends up in hell with all her previous caught bounties. Unlike Maccus, Morrigan has no choice to accept the contract. Once they meet the attraction and connection is undeniable but they both scoff at even the idea of forever. So instead, Maccus and Morrigan are on a breakneck journey to figure out why heaven and hell have pitted them against each other. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - sweet moments, steamy scenes, fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and meeting the rest of the brotherhood. 4.5 stars.

This is a dual POV story narrated by a single narrator. I usually prefer dual narration but Joe Hempel did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly. I really love the added dimension listening brings to a story.

Entertaining but...

The premise and story is interesting. I would have preferred a bit more of a build up of the tension, but they are good for each other.

The narrator is good, but there are times the voice doesn't change tone enough to be able to tell who is who.

Overall, a good read.

Omg!!! Light vs Darkness!!! Must listen

This book captured me from the first chapter. The character are well developed. The story is well written. A dark to lightness romance with angles, Demons, and devil. This book kept you guess what would happen next. The narrator was excellent. Wonderful start to a new series. Am downloading the Next book without any hesitation. If you enjoy a strong heroine and a alpha male, suspense, and hot sexual scene download this book.
