Publisher's summary

Freedom or death!

Knowing that they hadn't saved all the slaves when they'd rescued Stann, Jack and the Misfits are heading back to the strange new continent to finish the job.

Facing a society of power-hungry mages isn't a simple task. The team will have to continue to grow stronger and discover more of the secrets of mana while relying on their teammates to conquer this new challenge. All the while, they'll collect data and power to make Darkthorn Academy the most powerful academy in the world.

Freedom is a coming-of-age, sword and sorcery fantasy adventure with gamelit aspects, including a slightly overpowered MC, a dragon companion, and a team of adventurers. Inspired by games like Skyrim, Diablo 2, and Fallout.

Weak

As far as I am concerned this series concluded in the previous book. Or rather, I think it should have concluded in the previous book.

This book genuinely felt like an episode in a tv show, but not like a big budget tv show. There was absolutely no character growth in this book and had a very “more of the same” feel to it.

Tbh I didn’t really want to read this book but gave it a try anyway, and not once did it exceed my expectations of it.

The misfits set out on a mission and completed it. Albeit with some twists and turns but otherwise uninspiring.

As for how this book ended with the “off to another side-quest” plot; it does not inspire me to read the next book.

because of that, I am sadly not going to continue with this series.

Good but has some problems

The narration had awkward pauses, and the constant use of “and jack said” every other sentance.
Also the narrator sonds melancholy.

Slow

I love this series and I hope there are more to come but this book seemed to be a let down compared to the others. Still a good book but a small let down if this is the last one.
