Lyman Frank Baum was an American children's book writer best-known for creating the popular Wizard of Oz series. Baum was a prolific writer who wrote 14 novels in the Oz series, plus 41 other novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems, and about 42 scripts. He often wrote under pseudonyms. Of all the books, the one that made Baum a household name was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The book was published in 1900, and one of the reasons it is still popular is that in 1939, Hollywood made a film The Wizard of Oz based on Baum's stories. Unfortunately, Baum didn't live to see that film, although during his lifetime, he repeatedly tried to put his novel on stage.

In The Wizard of Oz, the plot revolves around a little girl's quest to find her way back home from a land of witches and munchkins.

Beautiful performance of this classic novel. The story still holds up to today’s standards. The narration is very well done.

An Engaging Walk down Memory Lane

The Wizard of Oz was always a favorite of mine growing up. I decided to revisit now as an adult on my morning walks. The performance of the text, with the great character voices and calm narration, drew me right in. Loved it and would highly recommend to anyone looking for some nostalgia!

Wonderfully narrated!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.It's been many many years since I've seen the movie . I was surprised to learn that Dorothy's slippers were silver and not red......

A Modern Classic and Great to Listen To

Most people today have, at some point in their lives, seen the 1930s classic Wizard of Oz, but at least for me, actually experiencing this classic in Baum's own words was something I'd never done, until now. Having seen the movie countless times, I confess that when I imagined the scenes, that little girl in the blue gingham dress was Judy Garland, and the rest of the cast fell into place close behind her, but there were some pleasant surprises, like the story of how the flying monkeys came to be and the last few chapters with the china people and the Winkies who never made it into the movie.
All in all, this one's a book I should probably have read long ago, but not having done so, this audio version was a wonderful way to fill a gap in my literary experience.

A New View of Oz

I live the Wizard of Oz but have never read the actual story. The differences from the movie are many yet the lessons are many the same
I wonderful way to expand into the actual content of the author’s work with background on him so interesting.
Mostly the narration was good but the were repetitions, too long of pauses when the character voices changed and some of the voices very grating
I would recommend a listen
