Publisher's summary

1803. The Napoleonic Wars. A Royal Navy warship is ordered to pursue an enemy frigate to the icy waters far south in the Indian Ocean. There, it must capture the enemy ship and retrieve a mysterious sea chest, contents unknown, failure not permitted.

For the determined young captain and his eager crew, this already dangerous mission turns into a battle with a mysterious vessel that appears not in the sea, but unbelievably, impossibly, in the sky above.

But nothing could prepare the crew for what lay beyond the 50th latitude of south.

Embark on an astonishing adventure in Fifty Degrees South, the action-packed, science fiction novel that listeners around the world can't turn off.

Best narrator ever

Was amazed when I recognized the narrator of HistoryMarche to be the same as this audiobook.

Unique story

Interesting and unique story. It has a lot of potential. It’s short but worth the money. I will be interested in listening to the next book if it comes out on Audible.

Story is ok. Not great, not terrible. Ending was rushed and disappointing. If you’re looking for a short listen and have free credits it’s ok.

Riveting period fiction

Loved the novella - wish it was longer- but it served to get me hooked on the characters and the plot - hope the series holds fast to the initial offering.

poor leadership from the captain

the aliens were very stupid with how they dealt with the humans and the captain of the warship was insane and only won because he was written to be the hero the book wanted you to like him and his crew but he was extremely incompetent and his crew should have removed him but stupidly kept following him and they only survived because of extreme restraint from the aliens

It’s ok

I purchased this book after seeing a very intriguing advertisement. It’s a good book but it didn’t capture my imagination enough for me to read the next book. This book was a long build up to the next book but didn’t set a good hook for a avid sci-fi reader.

Gripping Story from Start to Finish

Excellent story, an equally excellent narration. If you like historical science fiction, this book is a must. Anxiously awaiting books 2 and 3 to be available as audiobooks.

Good narrator

Interesting but difficult to mix these 2 genres. Some deus ex machina in the end.

Historical, Imaginative & Intruiging

I liked listening to this audiobook. It felt historically correct and I love the imagination. The only critique is that the ending felt a bit rushed and incomplete. I originally thought that with this showing as a series that there would be a follow up to the story with more closure but it looks like it’s 500 years in the future. Hopefully there are some flashbacks or the main character can stumble upon the history. Definitely worth reading/listening and I am intrigued. Need to get next book out on audiobook… Will keep an ear out!
