Publisher's summary

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.

Ranging from the now infamous village of New Dachang in the United Federation of China, where the epidemiological trail began with the 12-year-old Patient Zero, to the unnamed northern forests where untold numbers sought a terrible and temporary refuge in the cold, to the United States of Southern Africa, where the Redeker Plan provided hope for humanity at an unspeakable price, to the west-of-the-Rockies redoubt where the North American tide finally started to turn, this invaluable chronicle reflects the full scope and duration of the Zombie War.

Great book, but...

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The performances in this book are great. I really felt the characters had personalities, as well as individual voices.

Any additional comments?

The only thing keeping this from a five star rating is the fact that this is abridged. I have read on Max Brooks' website that they are in the process of adding the rest of the stories to this for a complete version. As soon as they do, that will get a five star review from me.

Unabridged?

Great story. Now I wonder what "the rest of the story" is. Wish the unabridged version was available.

more than a zombie book

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Every interview is done with a different voice. It's the first audiobook with multiple voices I listened to, and it turned out to work very well.

Any additional comments?

I don't like zombies, I only bought this book because a friend recommended it. I turned out to like the book, because essentially it is not about zombies. It's about how society deals with unexpected change, so you can make good comparisons with current global politics.

Too much swearing

Other than the almost constant f-bomb in parts, this was a good book that I enjoyed listening to. I have wanted to read this book for a while and started it I don’t know how many times but never had the time to finish. I am glad I was finally able to. I would give 5-stars if it wasn’t for the swearing.

Great voice acting!

Great voice acting, good cast, and really imaginative. Only downside is that it's an abridged version.

The voice acting was amazing.

Listening to this story did something that many books have failed to do lately. This story brought me in to this world and made me feel a part of it.

I wish it was longer.

Would you listen to World War Z again? Why?

I got this so I could listen before the movie, but I wish it was un abridged. Still a great listen.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

All star cast. Fantastic.

Abridged verson

This is an abridged version missing some of what I consider important and interesting parts. Performances are great, I like the production but wish it was whole book.
