Publisher's summary

From the number one New York Times best-selling author of The Husband's Secret and Big Little Lies

A “cheerfully engaging”(Kirkus Reviews) novel for anyone who’s ever asked herself, “How did I get here?”

Alice Love is 29, crazy about her husband, and pregnant with her first child. So imagine Alice’s surprise when she comes to on the floor of a gym (a gym! She HATES the gym) and is whisked off to the hospital, where she discovers the honeymoon is truly over - she’s getting divorced, she has three kids, and she’s actually 39 years old.

Alice must reconstruct the events of a lost decade and find out whether it’s possible to reconstruct her life at the same time. She has to figure out why her sister hardly talks to her, and how is it that she’s become one of those super skinny moms with really expensive clothes. Ultimately, Alice must discover whether forgetting is a blessing or a curse, and whether it’s possible to start over....

a lovely Adventure

I loved reading this book so much because I related so much to Alice and it was astonishingly surprising because right when you think you know exactly what she forgot the book takes a completely different direction it was absolutely lovely and phenomenally enjoyable to read.

Spectacularly Real

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

My stomach hurt all the way until she has her first dinner with Nick.

Great read

After a confusing first chapter I was hooked. I enjoyed the story from 2 perspectives and I often found myself questioning if I like the current me or the younger me. I loved the book it's an easy read/listen

Imagine this happening to you!

This was a very intriguing premise for a novel and the author did an excellent job at making it believable and interesting. Great narrating as well.

Another great Liane Moriarty book!

I have enjoyed every Liane Motiarty book I’ve read/heard. She is so talented at crafting multi-dimensional, realistically flawed characters. This book once again introduces characters who are so well done that they are relatable while also being so painfully unself-aware that the reader wants to help them to see what everyone but they seem to know about themselves. (How true that is for real life!) This story has a great added element of the main character having forgotten ten years of her life, thus the reader and other characters are truly seeing her as someone far different than she does. The well written story leads us to discover who Alice was, who she is now, and how one can change so drastically in ten years. It makes you ponder who you used to be a decade ago and would the you of them even like the you of now. Through the story, and especially at the end, we learn so many different perspectives of how Alice had changed, but also how all the other characters had changed, how growing and changing never stops. Fabulous story with a great narrator.

my favourite from Moriarty

I absolutely adore Liane Moriarty. The Husband's Secret was good, Big Little Lies was amazing, and What Alice Forgot might be my favourite yet. I love books like these (hard to explain without spoilers, basically I love books where people look back, see how they've changed). I just loved this book so much I wanted to hug it. I kept thinking about the end of the book for a couple weeks after, which is always a good sign.

To be completely honest, even though Liane Moriarty is a fabulous writer, I love her books for all the Australianisms. I feel like I'm at home when I'm reading about letterboxes and freddo frogs.
