Publisher's summary

Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, but suddenly that imagination seems to be in overdrive. Normal professional twenty-something young women don’t get visited by ghosts. Or do they?

When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie–a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance–mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, and Sadie cannot rest without it. Lara, on the other hand, has a number of ongoing distractions. Her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, her start-up company is floundering, and she’s just been dumped by the “perfect” man.

Sadie, however, could care less.

Lara and Sadie make a hilarious sparring duo, and at first it seems as though they have nothing in common. But as the mission to find Sadie’s necklace leads to intrigue and a new romance for Lara, these very different “twenties” girls learn some surprising truths from each other along the way. Written with all the irrepressible charm and humor that have made Sophie Kinsella’s books beloved by millions, Twenties Girl is also a deeply moving testament to the transcendent bonds of friendship and family.

Twenties Girl

This is my favorite Sophie Kinsella book. It's a great story with some incredibly funny parts. Great reminders on not taking those in your life for granted, and not settling for less. The audible version was narrated well.

Second-hand embarrassment

If you feel second-hand embarrassment when characters are in awkward situations, skip this one! 😉

I Love Aunt Sadie! And,You Will Too!

It took me a little bit to get into Twenties Girl, but once I did ... I was all the way in. I found myself loving Aunt Sadie. I loved the story of her life, her love affair with the neighbor and her missing necklace. Of course, I also really enjoyed Lara's story. I was happy to read about supportive parents as I found them very familiar and the charm of this story was just a total joy. I am a Sophie Kinsella fan, and this book was totally satisfying. Two thumbs up!

fun, sometimes touching

Any additional comments?

When I started listening I thought it was going to be a little far fetched even though it is meant to be humorous and I didn't think it would hold my interst. But a little way in I found I really enjoyed it and would have been happy if it continued on and just didn't end. It was fun in parts, and touching in others.

dumbest protagonist ever

It held my attention and had an interesting storyline, but the lead character was annoyingly stupid. The book would have been hours shorter if she had figured out the answers to all the various dramas and dilemmas at even half the speed of a person with normal intelligence. The ghost was also monumentally irritating, but at least her grating personality was an intentional part of the story. One can only hope the stupidity of the main character was an unintentional flaw. I gave it three stars because I was able to stay interested in the story and generally considered it not to be a complete waste of my time in that it did provide slightly more entertainment than frustration, but I completely understand the reviewers who weren't even able to finish it.

Enthralled!

As a fan of Sophie Kinsella’s humorous style, I quickly downloaded this title for a light listen as I was heading out of the door for a solo road trip. So, not knowing the plot, I launched and began to listen.

At first, I was amused at the characters, and then Sadie appeared. Then, I was amused that the author had thought of this unusual plot twist. But as I continued to listen, I was found myself on the most unexpected emotional journey.

This book tugged at me like none other in some time. For me, it was entertaining, uplifting and heartbreaking all at the same time and I am sitting here smiling and blowing my nose as I write this review.

Well done Ms Kinsella!
