Publisher's summary

TERRIFIED...

It was supposed to be a harmless camping trip. Six wayward teenagers who'd run into trouble with the law, and their court-appointed guardians, Sara and Martin Randhurst. Three nights on a small, deserted island off of Michigan's upper peninsula. A time to bond, to learn, to heal.

Then Martin told a campfire story about the island's history. Of the old civil war prison hidden in there, and the starving confederate soldiers who resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. Everyone thought it was funny. They even laughed when Martin pretended to be dragged off into the woods.

But Martin didn't come back. And neither did Sara when she went in search of him.

Then the laughter stopped.

...TO DEATH

The group soon began to realize that this deserted island wasn't so deserted after all. And perhaps Martin's ridiculous story had more truth to it than anyone thought.

What's the most horrifying thing you can imagine?

This is a hundred times worse...

TRAPPED by Jack Kilborn
It starts where other horror ends

A Word of Warning

This is the long-awaited follow-up to AFRAID, one of the most horrifying books ever written.

Originally scheduled to be released in paperback in 2010, the publisher read the first version of the manuscript and refused to release it. The author made extensive changes, rewriting much of the story. The publisher still refused.

This is a disturbing, terrifying book. You may think you're brave enough to handle it. But you're probably not...

I Am Ashamed Of Myself... I Want More!

Cannibals, Torture and Human Guinea Pigs, what more need I say? Apparently four more words.

Gore-fest!

Well, I can't say I wasn't warned by the other reviewers! This book has it all: people stranded on a scary island, sociopaths, sadists, a mad scientist, and a bunch of lobotomized cannibals. The first half of the book is effectively spooky; the second half is just gross, with vivid descriptions of people being roasted, eaten, tortured, degraded, mutilated, and so on. But I'm not complaining. Most of the story is entertaining, and the narration is solid.

There is one thing that's bothering me about the story and prevents me from giving it a higher rating. A big revelation in the second half changed the complexion of the whole novel. It made me go back to listen to key passages again to see if it was possible to predict it. Were there signs buried in the story? Was the author cleverly leading us in one direction only to shock us with the truth? Or were we outright tricked? Like a lot of readers/listeners, I don't like to be fooled by cheap tricks. And this one felt pretty cheap.

Still, I liked the book overall, and I recommend it to horror and gore fans.

Ha Ha Ha......

I have never laughed so hard! The author tries for the bloody gross out, goes over the top and it ends up being corny and silly. Not to use too many spoilers but the crazy cannibal with the salt shaker, and the kids who says in tears, "I ate my friend and he tasted like chiken!" I almost wet myself !

Creepy and brilliant!!

Killers, cannibals, and a remote island what more could you ask for! A group home for troubled teens opened by 2 psychologists Sara and Martin is getting ready to be shut down. Sara and Martin are married and wanted to take the kids for one last trip before they had to all go separate ways. Deciding to go on a camping trip on an island in Lake Huron was a huge mistake, or was it? Expecting to have a fun trip together and maybe salvage their marriage, nobody expected the horrors to come in the days that follow. Martin's campfire spooky story is enough to get them on edge especially when Martin comes up missing. Now the horrors begin, will anyone make it out alive? Be prepared for a major shock to your senses with Trapped! J.A. Konrath is absolutely spot on in his writing and I can't wait to read (listen to) more books by him. Narrator Phil Gigante did perfectly for getting your emotions on track. Are you afraid? You should be! Happy reading 💞

Very Predictable, a bit cliché, but worth a listen

Story not original, characters stereotypical, plot basic, but enough gore to keep you listening. Funny at times. Narrator did adequate rendition of different sexes and races.

It was no Afraid, but I still enjoyed it.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. It was everything I thought it would be campy, scarey, gory, annoying and unbelievable.

If you’ve listened to books by Jack Kilborn and J. A. Konrath before, how does this one compare?

I've only listened to one and this was a close 3rd

What aspect of Phil Gigante’s performance would you have changed?

The narration of the black youths. It came off extremely ridiculous.

Did Trapped inspire you to do anything?

Not go camping

Twisted

You probably either love or hate this author. I can't get enough. I finished this one in 4 days which in my busy schedule is really good. I couldn't stop listening. Read by the same guy that narrated Afraid, Phil Gigante did an excellent job. I could really visualize all the characters especially Lester. If you are a fan of gore/thriller/action then don't pass this one up. Keep putting them out Jack and I'll keep buying.

Wanted, Those Who Like Gruesom and Unsettling Stor

Would you consider the audio edition of Trapped to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version but Audible is always my choice between the two

If you’ve listened to books by Jack Kilborn and J. A. Konrath before, how does this one compare?

As I have read all J.A. Konrath's Jack Daniels series I was a little shocked to hear that she had co-authored such a gruesom story. I had just finished reading Afraid by Kilborn previously to Trapped. It was a little much back to back.

What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Phil Gigante is one of my favorite readers. He is a blast to listen to.

Who was the most memorable character of Trapped and why?

Sara Randhurst was the most memorable. Her strength and willingness to overcome her fears were prevelent.

Any additional comments?

I may be dating myself but this was like revisiting "The Island Of Dr. Moreau"
