Love the book but

I have to agree about the reader not being as good as the other one

Disappointment

I have to agree with other reviews in that I liked the series so far, but am disappointed with the narrator of this particular book. I don't know why or for what reason the narrator was changed, but in my opinion, it was a bad move. Sorry

El-Who?

I just finished listening to this book and like others, I'm disappointed in the reader's performance, not the story.

I, too, found the pronouncing of our modern heroine's first name extremely distracting. I can't imagine any English speaking person using El-woz, but since Justine's French accent was very, very good, maybe she was going for the French pronunciation? (El-woz IS close) She DID use the English pronunciation in the last chapter, which was commendable, but disconcerting and not terribly consistent.

Rather than jump all over poor Justine, perhaps the person who directed and or edited the performance should be taken to task. With a series of books, it's common to have someone in charge of checking these things out. I notice that a director is not credited for this book. Hmm...

Story Great, Narrator not the best

Miles and Henrietta are back! They are solving mysteries with Henrietta's friend Charlotte and the Duke of Dovetail, newly returned from India. Kidnapped Kings, French spies and murdered traitors abound in another winning novel by author Lauren Willig.

Disapointing Reader

I love this series. Unfortunately, the reader mispronounces the main characters name for the entire book and it's very distracting. The story itself is fun and funny as always.

Love the story, hate the narrator

The story is fun and I’m invested enough in the series at this point that I’m not going to return the book but the narrator is atrocious... no idea how that performance was approved. She mispronounces the main character’s name.. how does that even happen?? Kate Reading’s performance on the other books is far superior.

Great story, terrible reader

I love the whole pink carnation series, but it is really jarring to not hear Kate Reading. this performer was just OK, but the quality was really down and it was extremely obvious when they had to go in and fix something (the tone changed and the production value went down).

I’m disappointed that Kate isn’t narrating

This narrator is not only a random change, but also she promises things incorrectly often- not just names. The one that made me stop listening was when she pronounced pheasants as “peasants.” And while it made for a funny turn of phrase while people were hunting said peasants, I just couldn’t keep going. I’m skipping this one and hoping I don’t miss too much story-wise for the next.

Re-record? Please?

Justine Eyre might be a perfectly decent narrator, but her English accent is atrocious and I must add my voice to the chorus saying "El-woz? What?"

I really wish this book could be re-recorded by Kate Reading. They did it with one of the Artemis Fowl books, when they used someone other than Nathaniel Parker. The backlash against the other narrator was so great (I assume) that they had Nathaniel Parker re-record the book.

Kate Reading is the voice of this series. Please let her be the voice of the *entire* series.

Not as bad as I was expecting based on reviews

If you are really into the Lauren Willig series concerning the Pink Carnation, you might be able to get past the fact that this is a different reader. You might even be able to get past the few mispronunciations (eventually she stops pronouncing Eloise as "El-was" but I am disappointed that the producer didn't catch it right away. Other little things drove me crazy like pronouncing lowering as "lawring" more than once) Mispronunciations aside, she was an effective reader; able to effect different voices for different characters and effusing each character with emotion and depth. The story itself was a typical Willig plot. The characters were lovable and the ending was satisfying.
