Publisher's summary

Ben Walsh is well on his way to becoming one of Manhattan's top litigators, with a gorgeous boyfriend and friends on the A-list. His life is perfect until he gets a phone call that brings it all crashing down: a car accident takes his parents, and now he must return to Austin to raise three teenage brothers he barely knows.

During the funeral, Ben meets Travis Atwood, the redneck neighbor with a huge heart. Their relationship initially runs hot and cold, from contentious to flirtatious, but when the weight of responsibility starts wearing on Ben, he turns to Travis, and the pressure shapes their friendship into something that feels a lot like love. Ben thinks he's found a way to have his old life, his new life, and Travis too, but love isn't always easy. Will he learn to recognize that sometimes the worst thing imaginable can lead him to the place he was meant to be?

great story

I'm not the biggest fan of "straight boys turn" storues but this one works for me. Fun, sexy, sweet, and well rounded.

Nice Sweet Story

The Sizzle was great. Charters believeable and loveable. Had Aunt Julie figured out. Nice drop of the Alanon mention. Once again Charlie does fabulous job og character presentation

Excellent Part of the Trilogy

Would you listen to The Nothingness of Ben again? Why?

Great narration and good story. I always learn something when I read Mr. Boney's books and I love that. He throws so much into these stories you can't help but love them.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Travis - he was so sweet.

Have you listened to any of Charlie David’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I very much like Charlie David's narration. I'm always looking for new books narrated by him (of this genre).

If you could rename The Nothingness of Ben, what would you call it?

Endless Journey

DNF

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There are many thing that I would change about this book. I love long audiobooks, but the story was longer than it was supposed to be. I did not like the main characters love interest, I actually liked his ex a lot more. And biggest of all, it just didn't seem 'real'.

Has The Nothingness of Ben turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Could you see The Nothingness of Ben being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No

Any additional comments?

This was one of those m/m stories where there were too many sex scenes. I don't mind some in my story, but it don't like when the plot revolves around it.

Love the story. Bad performance

I have read this book a few times so I was very excited to be able to listen to it. I couldn’t even get past the second chapter. The reading of it is way to fast and not done well at all. Pretty upset as it’s one of my favorite books.

Feel good story. Horrible narrator.

Any additional comments?

This is a feel good story. There isn't much character development or emotional attachment to any character. Sometimes though you want a simple book that you don't have to think about. Just something that fills the silence and keeps you somewhat occupied, so that if your mind wanders in and out your don't really miss anything.

The narrator really is bad though that he ruined a simple feel good story. Made it pretty unbearable in fact. Travis is given an over the top stereo-typical Texan accent. Although amazingly, none of the other Texas residents have one. Lubbock is pronounced Lou-bock. Correct way is Lub-ick. It makes it distracting to try and puzzle out what the author is trying to say when a main character sounds like a buffoon. I kept expecting to hear something along the lines of Goofy's "Ah shucks" and laugh after ever sentence. There wasn't any need to make him sounds so stupid, it came across as if the narrator was prejudiced against Texans and southerners in general.
