Publisher's summary

A foundling, an old book of dark fairy tales, a secret garden, a maze, an aristocratic family, a love denied, a mystery - The Forgotten Garden is a captivating, atmospheric, and a compulsive listen about the past, ghosts, family, and memories from best-selling author Kate Morton.

Thirty-eight year old Cassandra is lost, alone, and grieving. Her much loved grandmother, Nell, has just died and Cassandra, her life already shaken by a tragic accident 10 years ago, feels like she has lost everything known and dear to her.

But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra's life upside down and ends up challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. Inheriting a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace Rutherford - the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early 20th century - as well as a cliff-top cottage on the other side of the world, Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell, on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past; little knowing that in the process, she will also discover a new life for herself.

Brilliant! Loved This Story! Best I've Ever Heard!

What an incredible imagination! I was riveted and hooked from the start. So intricate and oh, what a tangled web we weave! I had a hard time stopping with each listen to the next chapters, clues, more pieces to the puzzle. Wonderful combination of fairy tales and life's hard reality. I will definitely listen again some day. I look forward to checking out the authoress's other stories. The reader was phenomenal. I became so engrossed with her and could feel every emotion.

The Forgotten Garden

This book was so good it took me several days to do it just because of my work and stuff but it’s so worth listening to again I mean it’s captivating it’s far better than even the secret Garden and it’s just like you just keep on the edge like OK why what’s going on next and at first it was difficult for me to keep everybody straight who is who and this and that and we’re going from 2005 to 1900s and I was like wow and I’m definitely going to be listening to this again such a plus over 10 stars for Kate Morton on this book

Suspenseful

This book was better than I thought during the first few chapters. The more I read, the more I couldn’t put it down (or rather stop listening). It kept me in the edge of my seat until the final chapter.

Not the Secret Garden

At first I thought this was going to be a bit of a rip off on the Secret Garden. Nope. This is a wonderfully twisted book with a family secret that spans five generations alternating between UK and Australia. The narrator help you kept the jumps between times and places by changing her accents perfectly. Wonderful story.

Excellent Stories!!

Interesting use of time shift that tells so many stories from many vantage points. Intricate, layered and fascinating. So very well done. Just wanted to throttle the evil mother and sometimes characters not telling all right then. But it all contributed to a complex and intriguing story upon story upon story. Very beautiful. Wish for such a neatly tied happy ending for my life stories!!
