Publisher's summary

Disillusioned journalist Tom Langdon must get from Washington to L.A. in time for Christmas. Forced to take the train across the country because of a slight "misunderstanding" at airport security, he begins a journey of self-discovery and rude awakenings, mysterious goings-on and thrilling adventures, screwball escapades and holiday magic. He has no idea that the locomotives pulling him across America will actually take him into the rugged terrain of his own heart, as he rediscovers people's essential goodness and someone very special he believed he had lost.

Equal parts hilarious, poignant, suspenseful, and thrilling, David Baldacci's The Christmas Train is a delightful journey filled with memorable characters who have packed their bags with as much wisdom as mischief...and a story that shows how we do get second chances to fulfill our deepest hopes and dreams, especially during this season of miracles.

Kept me entertained.

The characters are very well developed. Even though there were several character, the were each unique and memorable. The audio performance was really good!

A Holiday Treat

Listening to this novel may become a new holiday tradition for me. Festive and engaging, I was sad for it to end. A simple, yet enthralling Christmas adventure teaming with memorable characters.

Sweet story of second chances

One of my favorite Christmas stories so far. A story of second chances, love, and hope of true love. The story did start somewhat slow, but once on the train I did not want to turn it off. The characters were written well and the story made me wish I was there. You will not be disappointed, but this is not like any other Baldacci book.

Great Christmas Rom-Com-Mystery

I loved this story. Interesting characters in an unusual but believable situation, with laugh or loud dialogue. And, Mr. Matheson's performance was terrific!! I went searching for other books he's read and sadly only found 2 others. Sigh....

Awesome as Always

He did it again. This one answers a lot of questions I had about Walt and his wife. My biggest problem? I wish he could write faster!

Entertaining holiday story with lots of twists

The story line had the extra entertainment value in that it was chock full of info about train travel. The Christmas angle really added to the enjoyment of the season. The plot twists kept it full of suspense.

Loved it!

I've heard of this author, yet never had the inclination to read his work. Well, with this story, that has changed and I'll probably read more of his work in the future. The reason for it is not that he writes well, which he definitely does, but it's all the characters that he writes about are really good and well fleshed out.

This story had meat on it and Tim Matheson narration was spot on. He brought all the characters to life and I had so much fun following all of them but especially Tom and his two girlfriend, one from his past and another from his present.

This was a wonderful story of second chances, human interaction and some romance and mystery woven within it. Loved it!

A Short, Fun Read

What did you love best about The Christmas Train?

It was funny--a nice, light read.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was pleased that things worked out as they did--but maybe too neatly! I liked that it was funny, but some of the plot devices were a bit silly.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene in which Tom meets Agnes Joe.

If you could take any character from The Christmas Train out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Agnes Joe, what a hoot!

Will Not Disappoint!!

Great storyline and makes the reader want to explore the slower pace travel of trains. Characters are well developed and interesting. Would recommend for listening to any time of the year. David Baldacci never disappoints in his novels.

The Christmas Train

The Christmas Train.
Very disruptive and detailed. Characters were intersting. The ending was a bit lame but didn't distract from the overall story.
Now I really want to ride a train across the country.
