Publisher's summary

As she did with The Burning Point, Mary Jo Putney crafts a stirring tale of modern relationships. Director Raine Marlowe needs a star for her first film. Although Raine’s marriage is crumbling into a divorce, her action hero husband, Kenzie Scott, agrees to take the role. But when the skeletons in Kenzie’s closet are mirrored by the movie character’s dark secrets, Kenzie knows he must either confront his past or lose the one woman he’ll always love.

Critic reviews

“Bravo! Putney proves she’s every bit as good writing contemporary romance as she is with historicals." ( Booklist)

Traumatic story of trust & unconditional love

Mmmmm I just don't know how to review this as I can appreciate it was well written, had a good plot and contained interesting characters. The plot is estranged husband and wife Hollywood stars Kenzie and Raine agree to make a film together but the film's main leading man's character had been held captive and repeatedly raped. Unbeknown to his wife the Director, he had something traumatic hidden deep that had happened to him as a child and unfortunately playing this part was bringing back some baaaad feelings and memories that he's tried to deny.

It was a touching but emotional journey as the pair try to get closer again and then devastation strikes and all seems lost as his secret finally comes out. It started out as a romance but it soon became tense and then I found it quite depressing - hence my original hesitation on the review.

Worth a credit? YES and NO - I love Ms. Putney's historical romances, and I like to be swept away in a tale that's happy and a light listen but I found this to be too deep for my tastes but I appreciate that this is a good, well written book - but sadly, it's just not for me.

Really enjoyed this one

I'm not normally a fan of 2nd chance romances but this one really worked for me. Loved our Cary Grant type hero who dug deep to support our heroine. Enjoyed the peek into movie making. Excellent narration!

A path well chosen

I so enjoy MJP's Circle of Friends series, and the second in the series: The Spiral Path, is my favorite.

If you like in-depth character development, clever prose that takes you on an emotional journey with Kinsey and Rainey, then listen away. I never wanted the story to end.

An of course, having Barbara Rosenblat reading this excellent book is "icing on the cake".

Narrator is a challenge

Great story, but the characteristic pauses and breaths that worked in Scottolini audiobooks made it distracting and a challenge for me in this recording. I found myself having to re-listen to parts and sometimes wanting to stop. Glad I made it through; I loved the "book".
