Nia Simone Bijou is a woman who has it all - and is driven by the desire for more. Born in Trinidad, reared in Los Angeles, living in Atlanta, Nia is a writer, a thinker, and a woman in conflict. She's dealing with two sides of her Gemini self, feeling as if there are two women living inside her, both struggling for domination.
One side of Nia is a logical yet heartbroken person who has never let go of an old pain. The other side is a sensual woman who will not let her rest, desiring intimacy and sexual freedom, demanding pleasure.
In the sweltering heat of July, loneliness, desire, and a struggle with both the sensual self and fantasy inspire Nia to become sexually adventurous, meeting lovers who arouse her in diverse ways, lovers who give her unimaginable experiences, generous lovers who desire to please her as much as she desires to satisfy them. Fantasies spiral out of control, and with her life on the line, Nia discovers that pleasure does not come without pain.
Filled with passion, populated with characters that are sexually uninhibited, Pleasure is an unforgettable journey into a free-spirited world.

"Susan Spain's emotionally nuanced reading successfully translates the book to audio format." (Library Journal)
This book should be placed in Erotica section not in the Romance section. This book is not a romance novel. This is a good book if you are not looking for a romance novel.
I purchased this book, because it was listed as a fiction/romance (african american). However this book should be listed as erotica/sexuality. Not that I have a problem with erotica, but this book was non-stop sex and in the end there were no redeeming qualities about the characters involved. Sadly, this book depicts "successful, intellegent" people engaging in risky behavior. Listening to this book is at first arousing, then after 2 straight hours of "blow jobs" it gets old quickly.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
Portions of the story were hot...very. (yes, as in Zane, Noire, Mary B Morrison hot) But parts of the book made you say 'huh?'. I was not sure how some of it was tied into the story so it seemed a little all over the place. The ending was not to my liking. It starts off a page turner but parts of it could have possibly been edited so that it flowed better.
A few hot scenes are okay every now and then, but this was just too much. Some of the situations seemed unrealistic...totally and ridiculously unrealistic. However, if hot funky love is what you want, this one's for you.
This is erotica, and even though thats not what I was looking for it was great! Nia Simone protrays a woman's version of behavior that men are characterized as having.."Seeking full sexual pleasure without compromise". My only problem was that the author never mentions "saftey" during sex which cause me to go "ewh" at times, but that doesnt distract too much from the erotica of the sceenes.
I will listen to NO boring book. Old Fav's,Card, King , Hobb. New Fav's, Hill, Scalzi, Sawyer, Interested in Lansdale, Crouch, Konrath
THE HEAT OF JULY LIVED BETWEEN MY THIGHS
Right from the start we have this main character pleasuring herself. Even though through out what I listened to she keeps telling us what smart, independent, and accomplished woman she is, she has all kinds of trouble reaching the peak. She wants a man for sex, but does not want any emotional ties. Later when she has the chance to make her fantasies cum true with a set of beautiful rich male twins, she chickens out. She spends a lot of time talking about sex, but nothing else. This may have changed after six chapters, but I could not take this bitch any longer.
NEEDS BROUGHT OUT THE SELFISHNESS IN US ALL.
This could have been titled THE YOUNG, BROWN, RICH AND HORNY. Our hot chick meets a couple of guys and they start talking about their trips to Europe and how much they love cricket. Really, what are the chances you would find three people in Atlanta, who love cricket? She is also a writer and hates anyone who uses your for you're and the wrong their, there or They're, etc. I now some people like that and who think they are better then others cause they have a talent with words. Well, we all have a talent in something, it doesn't mean we have to have the same talent or that anybody is better then anybody else, so get off your high horse. She prefers married men. She speaks constantly in short clipped sentences, often giving several descriptions for one thing. I think she has orgasms listening to her self talk.
TO MYSELF BECOME A PHILOSOPHER.
Needless to say, I did not like this character and when the first real sex scene ended up being a guy blowing another guy, I moved on to another book.
WOMEN WHO MIGHT OUTLIVE ME, BUT MY COFFIN WILL BE EASIER TO CARRY.
Simply complicated. I like a little fiction in my life to break it all up. No time to read anymore so now I listen to my books.
So eroticly good.
The twins sound like they were etched from chocolate.
Nia we are both Geminis & I can relate to the feeling of have two personalities that are polar opposites but live together. She is braver than I but I can enjoy living through her experiences.
I read this book a couple of years ago but I recently came across a kindle book on the character Nia that made me want to re visit this story. I cant believe how much I'm enjoying Pleasure the second time around.
This was my very first audible book. I would listen to it over and over. Eric Jerome Dickey is one of my favorite writers and I love anything he puts out. I've never experienced a bad book from him and I do not expect to.
Nia Simone Bijou is my favorite character. She is open and free, willing to sacrifice everything to find herself.
She is very articulate and can change from character to character flawlessly.
This is one of the better stories I have read in a long time. Story ended realistically and I loved the passion and adventure. Nia took her Yoni and spectacular adventure and did some crazy stuff along the way. Thousands of thumbs up to Eric Dickey...Masterful work.
"Gap Filler listening"
Not knowing what the next chapter was going to bring. I think ahead of the story and it was not what I thought it was going to be
The twin without the tattoo (Mark) as to me he loved 2 women but felt he had love for Nia Simone but was married and felt like he had to fulfil his commitment
