Publisher's Summary

Best friends Charlotte and Janine have serious problems with their love lives. Charlotte's husband, the flashy preacher Curtis Black, may keep her living in luxury, but his book tours and evangelism mean he's never home. Charlotte's sure he's cheating and even hires a PI to follow him, but she's been known to have indiscretions herself. Her 12-year-old, Matthew, is another man's son, and she suspects troubled five-year-old, Marissa, whom she swore was Curtis' child, might be the result of a tryst with a schizophrenic.

Charlotte's friend Janine, a college professor, also is worried that her boyfriend, Antonio, is cheating on her, as well as getting heavily into drug dealing. She kicks him out, but Antonio won't take no for an answer.

    "Hilarious!"

Love & Lies was truly a "piece of work". Apparently this story is part of a series, however it's not necessary that you read the previous books. The narrarator pulled me right on in and the writer had me cracking up. I found myself talking to my iPod trying to offer advice. If you want something to make you laugh, yet is filled with drama - this is the book for you.

    "A first-class production"

This book had a nice tempo to the storyline that held my attention throughout. The characters were well developed -- so much so that I wanted to jump in and strangle some of the guys myself! The best part of all was the narrator. What a delight! The voices she used really brought the story to life.

    ""A Keeper""

I have enjoyed listening to this "True to Real Life" book. It does appear that the author has done her research about human behavior. People can be and many are sinful, and can be doubt-minded even within the House of God. Listen to this book and judge for yourself. I am not much on writing reviews but this time I had to response.

Love & Lies (Rev. Curtis Black Series #4)

I like this read. It had been many years since I last read a Reverend Curtis Black novel and it felt good to reacquaint myself with the characters and their history. The history of the characters came back slowly and I was surprise I had retained as much knowledge of them, which I did. I can only give credit to Mrs. Roby for being a master in "Character Development." -This is an area of writing new writers should study and practice. Now on to the book.

I have read Love & Lies hard cover, and I listened to the novel in audio formats, narrated by Tracey Leigh. Kimberla Lawson Ruby did a wonderful job with Love & Lies, which is book number four of the Rev. Curtis Black series. The mechanics: Character development was excellent (Kimberla is an masterful author at this). There was no stalling, or dry spots, the story moved very well. Plot points were set and well developed. Sub-plots moved the story. Chapter development was well organized. I did not find any editing, or manufacturers errors. Nice thick cream-colored paper, the font style and size was excellent. Adult Theme, but suited for the matured +17 year old.

The characters Rev. Black, Charlotte Black, Melissa, and Janine drives this storyline with lies, infidelity, betrayal, domestic violence, and mental illness. Kimberla combat these issues with honesty, trust, love, and bravery. After reading this novel, I can say all the events and solutions are plausible, and real life, which left me to wonder if any of the characters innocent of their circumstances?

Love & Lies was an emotional read, as you will pick your characters to cheer on, and those you will want to just meet in an ally and beat their ass, and that ass whopping includes Rev. Black for his dumbness, and weakness. --This is a well crafted novel, and well deserved of 5 Stars. The only reason why I would not give it 5 Stars is for its predictability, other than that, it rates 4.50 Stars, excellent!

    "Good entertainment"
Would you listen to Love & Lies again? Why?

I'm a "multi-tasking" pro and bought this easy to follow audio mainly to keep my mind busy while I physically completed a task. I have not regretted the choice. The performance was clear and I could distinquish the performer's voice when they switched characters. The storyline was easy to follow and the characters were developed well so that I felt as though I knew them personally. I would listen to this audio again.

What other book might you compare Love & Lies to and why?

I can't think of any other book I would compare this to.

Have you listened to any of Tracey Leigh’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of her other performances.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story was funny in some cases because the character's responses were real to some extent.

    "What?"

I believe that we are all sinners but to deliberately sin and then profess to lead peole to God is unacceptable. All of the characters in this book fit that profile and I couldn't even finish reading this book. It was so ridiculous that there was no right only wrong. How could the author think that this story was worth reading?

    "Beyond Horrible!"

I hate to be so harsh, but I felt so mislead by the other reviews that I had to chime in. How anyone could find this book funny is completely beyond me. I forced myself to listen to the entire book, as painful as it was, because I couldn't write the review I'm writing without having given the book a chance. The characters were all so self destructive, mean, selfish and stupid that I was hoping for some dramatic car crash at the end to kill them all off. Bad, huh? These people's lives were one self-induced train wreck after another and I was so disheartened and depressed by the end of this book that I immediately downloaded something light to counteract the bad feelings this book left me with. I read a lot and I enjoy all different types of books, but this was indeed awful and the only nice thing I can say is that the narrator did a good job with a really bad book.
