Publisher's summary

Across America a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly contagion. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common–they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.

Meanwhile Perry Dawsey–a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey–awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected. The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder.

Critic reviews

"Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk, Infected blends science fiction and horror into a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense. Three recommendations: don't read it at night, or just after you've eaten a full meal, or if you're weak of heart. You've been warned!"—James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Judas Strain and Black Order

“Powerfully written . . . an unforgettable central character.” —Dallas Morning News

“Sigler is masterful at grabbing the reader by the throat and refusing to let go. Just when I thought I knew what abyss he was leading me across, he knocked the bridge out from under... I think I screamed the whole way down... Infected is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.”—Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match

not my thing

I couldn't even finish this book, and wish I could get a refund. I hated it completely.

Captivating, well written, delicious narration!

I was almost put off this book after reading a review about the author narrating the book. Personally I could not listen to King, Cook or Koontz for any length of time. Fantastic writers. Narration is most assuredly not their forte .
Sigler? He should NEVER allow anyone to replace him as a narrator. The dude is fantastic. His characters are easily definable by the voice he assigns to each.. you wont find yourself doing the "huh? Which person was that? Not ever.
THEN.. the story. Geesh I was kind of expecting zombie-ish. Reallly wasn't expecting a story that kept me wanting more.
I own a small family run business. We can never agree on music.
We play audible in the shop 6 days a week. So we go through 3-6 books a week on average.
I think we are the quintessential avid listener .
We found we didn't mind working a little later we were so engrossed in this book.
There are three, so far. Book two although in my opinion not as great as one. Still damn good. Three ? You won't be disappointed in content. The only shade I would throw at it is the narration. Although it isn't the worst it pales in comparison to Sigler. I look forward to listening to many more of this diverse authors dalliances into the fantastic believable , unbelievable. Probably only the ones he narrates himself.

Started to Rate Performance Lower

... But S.S. acknowledged his weak attempt at the female voices and seemed to have such a good time reading his own material I had to cut him some slack. Did a lot better than I could have done.

Really enjoyed this book!

Great story, and narrator. I love that it incorporated real scientific concepts into fiction. I have listened to all 3 in this series and this is my favorite.

Great bu?t not

I love Scott's books, but I'd love to hear this read by a better voice (i.e. Ray Porter ) still, Scott is a great storyteller!

Hooked from start to finish!

As someone who works in medicine and science but also loves science fiction I love when an author breaks down the exact way their story could be plausible. an engrossing story with interesting characters and lots of action, I immediately bought the sequel because I needed more. The only reason I gave performance 4 stars is because the Hispanic doctor speaks with a heavy accent the entire book even though it states multiple times she was born and raised in the US. This is corrected in book 2.

Authentic and mind boggling

Any horror fan knows all the cliches with "infected" people. None existed in this masterpiece.

A good read if you have a strong stomach

I read Earthcore, then in the introduction of the sequel Mt Fitz Roy the author listen the optional reading for this fictional universe, starting with Infected. I liked the author enough that I put Mt Fitz Roy on hold to do the optional reading. So far I'm glad I did. Some reviews stated that the narration is poor, but I honestly thought it was excellent.

COLUMBO IS HERE, ISN'T HE?

FEED US, WE HUNGRY
NO BOUT A DOUT IT, this is gory. There is a part where this guy cuts both his legs off, that will probably never leave my memory. That is only one of very many. At first I thought this was going to be very silly. The writing as a whole and in the beginning are not real professional. Sigler's ability to make you cringe and to tell an interesting story and to tie all the loose ends together are uncanny. Amongst all the gore, there is a mystery, a very intriguing mystery, that keeps you reading. Things said and done early on, start to make a lot more sense towards the end.

SOMEONE'S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR,
A few problems kept this from being a five star. As already mentioned the writer seems a little less polished in parts, a good editor was needed. I got tired of the, I was abused by my dad theme (not too original). Towards the end of the book, he even seems to approve of abusive fathers. Scott is a better narrator then a lot of author narrator, he does good voices, but the main narration part, is very boring at times. A good professional narrator could have made these parts more interesting. Course, a good editor would have eliminated a lot of these parts to begin with.

LET THEM IN
This book is worth your consideration, if you are not bother by gore and bad language. I know that I will listen to the sequel.
