Publisher's summary

Three-time Christy Award winner and best-selling author Lynn Austin pens a fascinating historical novel based on actual Biblical events.

Shortly after the death of King Solomon in 931 B.C., the Promised Land is divided into two separate nations: Israel in the north, and Judah in the south. Hezekiah is the second son of King Ahaz of Judah. As he comes to power, he must navigate a troubled path to reunite his wayward people with Yahweh.

Beautifully written and read!

Lynn Austin is brilliant in her ability to write biblical historical fiction. It is true to Scripture yet fills in the gaps with a fictional explanation of what could have happened. For example, I have often wondered how Hezekiah could have come to faith in Yahweh when his father was the evil Ahaz. Austin takes small bits of information from Scripture and expounds to give a possible explanation. For me, it paints a picture so vivid that I will not forget it!

Reflections of Today

Loved this book. The story was riveting. It brought the characters to life; and yet so many connections to our struggles with idol worship in our daily lives can be made today.

Educational

Thoroughly enjoyed, because I don't sit down and read the bible as I should. Fun to hear.

Well Done!

I liked that she kept true to the essence of the scripture even though it was fictionalized. Well read & dramatized.

There are good life lessons to be embraced in this story.

It is biblical

What made the experience of listening to Gods and Kings the most enjoyable?

The fact that this was a true story. The author fleshed out characters and showed us the context they operated in.

What other book might you compare Gods and Kings to and why?

I like historical fiction because I learn something , while being entertained. Here I learned, but I didn't get to know these people. I missed that

What does Suzanne Toren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

warmth

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, extreme reaction. The situations were linked together on a timeline and characters followed the script. I didn't get to care for any of the people in this story. They were like puppets. I felt the author prioritized accuracy . If she wasn't,t sure that the character had had this experience she didn't give it to them.

Bible come to life

What made the experience of listening to Gods and Kings the most enjoyable?

Easy to follow and experience life as the Kings and early Prophets did.

What did you like best about this story?

I love listening to a story I have heard all my life but for the first time felt some of the emotions of the people living this part of history.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Micah came to King Hezekiah in boldness and the King's heart was receptive to the truth.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have, but I did take some breaks .... because "life" happens ... LOL and I can't be completely removed from the world for long periods.

Any additional comments?

This was encouraging for me as a Christian to realize the as corrupt as our government is, it is not the first time people have gone this far away from God, and that in the end God always has the victory and His people will be witness to the judgement. Also makes me realize how I need to be cautious of how I am prone to drift from Him and His Word and how important it is for me to realign on a regular basis.

This book was amazing!

The narrator did a wonderful job of making me feel as though I was there and as though I knew each character. This book also reminded me of how easily we forget how good God is to us!
