Publisher's summary

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep.

Go the F--k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach’s profane, affectionate, and radically honest verses perfectly capture the familiar - and unspoken - tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, he opens up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations and laugh at their absurdity.

Beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny, Go the F**k to Sleep is a book for parents new, old, and expectant. Due to its explicit language, you probably should not play it for your children.

Feel free to share the link to this page with tired parents and other people who could use a good swear and a laugh.

Critic reviews

"Total genius." (Jonathan Lethem, author of Motherless Brooklyn, father of two)
"A children's book for grown-ups! I really did laugh out loud - hilarious!" (David Byrne, musician, father of one)
"Finally, someone tells it like it really is. This is no-guilt funny and a godsend!" (Cristina Garcia, author of The Lady Matador's Hotel, mother of one)
"The viral phenomenon comes to audio in this clever adaptation of Mansbach's "children's book for adults." NOT a family-friendly listen, this audio will have you giggling and looking around to see if anyone else heard what just came through the speakers. Samuel L. Jackson, known for his foul-mouthed onscreen characters to begin with, is a perfect choice for such a lovingly irreverent audiobook. The desperation in his voice rises as the child, who is the object of the parental pleading, refuses to cooperate. By the end, both seasoned and expectant parents will be alternating between laughing and cringing at the exasperation in Jackson's tongue-in-cheek narration. The production begins with a casual introduction from Jackson, which appears to act as an apology for what's to come, as if Jackson (and author, producers, etc.) wants to assure the listener not to worry—despite everything, we DO love our children very much. Even when they refuse to go the f--k to sleep." ( AudioFile)

Perfect

Every individual thing here is perfect, from the story to the expletives to Samuel L. Jackson's spot on narrating; all combined together, there really are no words to describe it.

An adult bedtime story

Samuel L. Jackson has raised use of the F-Bomb to an art form. Welcome to his museum.

Title says it all

Would you consider the audio edition of Go the F--k to Sleep to be better than the print version?

I don't know. I haven't read the book, but Jackson is perfect for this.

What did you like best about this story?

I could relate to it.

What does Samuel L. Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice.

Invested in the F-Bomb!

Any additional comments?

Not quite as funny as I expected, despite the inspired casting of Samuel L Jackson. As a believer in the power of the F-bomb, this "bedtime story" is probably 3 minutes too long--it loses impact about halfway through.

Hilarious

It seems that this book rose to best-seller status thanks to a viral online campaign which 'leaked' pdf images all over the internet prior to the book's release. But however it got to the top spot, I'd say it deserved the praise. One big caveat: if you're easily offended by profanity, I'd say you'd best stay away. Otherwise, this book about an exhausted parent reading a bedtime story to a child who will not go the f**k to sleep, and evidently has been refusing to go the f**k to sleep for a good while now, is hilarious. I'm not a parent, but I've done my share of babysitting and au pairing in my time, and boy, could I relate. This version narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, may lack the illustrations (which I hear are very lovely), but Jackson's reading of this six-minute little tale is just priceless.

The Hype was better than the story.

Would you try another book from Adam Mansbach and Ricardo Cortes (cover illustration) and/or Samuel L. Jackson?

I love Samuel L Jackson, but this was not his best.

Would you recommend Go the F--k to Sleep to your friends? Why or why not?

No, it was not really that great.

Did Samuel L. Jackson do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

yes.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

Any additional comments?

Best "Adult" Bedtime Story Ever

I loved this; absolutely hilarious! This book put into words the way many parents have felt late in the evening trying to get "little monsters" to go the F--k to sleep.

For Every Parent Who Has Been There....

Any additional comments?

If you are a parent, you will remember the days when your pride and joy just absolutely refused to close their precious peepers and take a snooze and it got to the point where you were nearly in tears emploring them with the words which are the title of this wonderful book that will make you laugh til you cry because, you have been there!

Samuel L. Jackson delivers

This was my first audible listen. Since then I have listened to a few. Find that I enjoy those voices that are familiar to me.
