Cassie Madison has it all: A high-powered advertising career; a stylish Manhattan apartment; and a sophisticated, rich, and gorgeous fiancé. It's a far cry from her childhood in Walton, Georgia, home of the annual Kudzu Festival and hot, sticky summers.
And then there are all the bad memories, the heartache. When Cassie's estranged sister calls to say that her father is dying, Cassie knows it's time to set aside her feelings and go home and face the sister she hasn't seen in 15 years.
When her father dies, he leaves the family home to Cassie, who can't wait to get rid of it and get back to New York, her job, and her fiancé, even if it means having a developer tear down the house.
But something keeps her in Walton, and she doesn't know if it's her mending relationship with her sister; the irresistible, aggravating Sam Parker, who wants her to preserve her house; or the feeling of finally being home.

I wasn't sure about this book but it turned out to be such a great book. Love, laugh and tears all in one book!! I can't wait to listen to another book by Karen White!!!
This was a great story and the narration was a true perfromance but I probablyt won't finish the book. I typically enjoy books that have happy endiings and while I'm assuming that the main character in this book ends up with a happy ending her sister (who is the young mother of 6 children) dies in the end of the book from cancer.
If you don't mind a happy ending being over shadowed by saddness you'll love this book. But, if you're like me and don't want to end a great story with the death of a very likeable character you may want to pass on this and try another of Karen White's books.
I could not finish this book - I realized that I was so irritated at Cassie and the way she was written that I had to quit. She is suppose to be this 35 year old New York ad executive, but she was portrayed as a bumbling, awkward girl. Sorry - I guess I like a little spice in my books - this one was way too simplistic.
I enjoyed this book almost as much as other books by this author. Not as much intrigue as her others but still a good one. The southern drawl.was quite drawn-out at times. If it bothers you just speed it up
This book was 16+ hours of listening. There wasn't much of a story. It was sort of like a very predictable Made-for-TV movie story, but drawn out wayyyyyyyyy toooooooo looooong. The characters are predictabl, as is the plot. The narrator was so-so. More than once I kept thinking I can't wait for this book to finish. I'd say skip this one. Not worth the time commitment. It would be an okay as a quick beach listen if it was 2 or 3 hours.
Mother of three, grandmother of two, work full time as a labor and delivery nurse and love to listen to books while I am doing other things.
I enjoyed listening to this book and would recommend it to others who like this kind of story. It is different enough that you really get into to the characters and near the end I was in tears and laughing with them.
The narration was great and the author created a delightful small town world. I was drawn into the story but dismayed that one of two main characters dies in the book.
I would warn friends that they will not feel uplifted by the book.
Death of Harriet had me sobbing.
True stories have to have sad moments and I can handle that as real life. But I don't see why the author had to ruin the wonderful world she created by killing off a main character.
Oh man, I really wanted to like this book, but just couldn't. It's boring, contrived - and worst of all - the main character is a real tool. This is the literary version of a really bad Lifetime movie. If you like really generic books by authors like Debbie Maccomber and Fern Michaels, this might be your cup of tea.
"A very good audio book."
This book was well worth buying, it was full of family warmth and it really gave a sense of homecoming, plus the narration was very good too.
It's been this will make you laugh and sob in equal measures make sure the tissues are handy
