One year ago, a young woman checked into a small bed-and-breakfast in the hills of West Virginia. She was never seen again...

Tonight, the Rushmore Inn will host four new guests who bear striking similarities to the woman who disappeared. Like her, they are young and beautiful - Iron Woman athletes preparing for a triathlon. Like her, they were forced to come to this godforsaken place when their hotel overbooked. And like her, they will experience the most terrifying night of their lives. But this year will be different. This time the women are fighting back...

WOW.......GREAT BOOK!!!

I have become a HUGE Jack Kilborn fan. I listened to "Afraid" first and couldn't get enough. I was so excited to begin "Endurance" and I was not disappointed. I use to be a big fan of Dean Koontz but I have to admit Mr. Kilborn has him beat. If you love horror stories you will not be disappointed in this book. Just be prepared to listen because you will not be able to press pause!!!

perfect narration made for a creepy novel

If i had read this book on my own I don't think it would of had the same feel. Christopher Lane's narration made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end. The book it's self was typical Jack Kilborn. Gruesome and a bit over the top, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I truely recommend to all horror novel fans.

PEOPLE CHECK IN, BUT THEY DON'T CHECK OUT

THE PERSON WHO TOOK MY LEGS, IS UNDER THE BED
It is black or white on rather you will love or hate this book, and you will do one of the two. If you enjoy slasher movies and/or you are the type to pay extra to see the freaks at the circus, you will love this. If you do not enjoy such things you will hate this. I'M SURROUNDED BY FREAKS.

Q: WHAT DO YOU WANT
A: I WANT TO WATCH YOU BLEED.
If you are still reading then you will love this, so how does this compare to other Konrath scary books? I have read three of Konrath's science fiction books and this is my third scary or dark book. This is a five star book, but I did like Trapped best and then Afraid and then this. I'm sure I should not admit to it, but I have always been fascinated by inbreeding and the results. X-Files has an episode involving an inbreeding family that I liked a lot. Due to Man's silly belief that leadership is in the blood, we have several examples of inbreeding throughout our history with the Kings and Queens and Pharaohs. The premise for this story is a family who has Roosevelt blood and believes they can breed a new president. Through most of the book I was shocked and grossed out, but I will admit toward the end, it did get to the point of enough already. Konrath got to the point where he was just coming up with all the weird oddities he could think up and the story got a bit redundant. I also did not find the Mountain Lion scary, nor did I think it fit into the story that well. I realize that Mountain Lions are nothing to be messed with, but it was just a regular everyday mountain lion.

You can not compare Konrath to Koontz or King, these guys have totally different styles. King and Koontz write scary mess with your head stuff, sometimes with character development and usually a political message. Konrath writes dark, gory, shocking stuff, without character development or any messages. He is just trying to entertain.

The narrator is very good. He does have to do several red necks and many of them do sound the same, but this is not a character driven story, so it did not matter. I did not think when he was doing the regular narration and not doing characters, that he needed to stay in the red neck voice and it would have sounded better if he had not done so. Just my thought and it was certainly not done to the point of distraction.

This is a genre treat

Okay, if you are looking for an uplifting, introspective yadda, yadda... keep looking. This hits the same vein as staying up late and watching "Friday the Nightmare on Elm Chainsaw".

I have listened to a few of Jack's books and like them because they prod at the same nerve that weirded me out when I was 13, camping and someone starts telling a scary story that you were like "no way" but it creeped you out later in the dark.

I thought Christopher Lane should be commended. He got a pretty into it with some unsettling vocalizations that made me wonder what the hell went on in his childhood.

Hey its fun, its like a carnival ride. This book was never meant to compare to "Grapes of Wrath"!

Awesome

This book was amazing. The horror and fast paced action was great. Truly a story of people who go through hell and back. I've bought every Jack Kilborn book he puts out and I will continue to do the same. If you like gruesome horror with and a lot of action then look no further.

I thought the narrator did a great job. His southern style made a lot of the characters really come to life. I have listened to many books where four or five characters sound exactly the same and its hard to know who is who. I could definately tell when each character was speaking. Excellent.

Five stars!

Endurance

This has to be one of the goriest, most violent books I've ever read. It's plot (?) is outRAGEOUSly impossible. As for me, that's what I expect for a book in this category. So if you like gory books, this a 5 star one. I took away a lot of points because of the narrator. I give him a minus 1 star. Awful. Maybe he's trying to sound like Will Patton, but he fails miserably. Awful voices. Annoying drawl.
Overall though, I still wanted to finish it to see how it ended. Not always true with a lot of books.
Gory, gross and gruesome. I cringed several times and I LOVE horror stories! Got what I paid for.

Gross, Disgusting, Sick & Gruesome

I have to say that this was the most gross, gory, disgustingly sick book I've ever read or heard. Yes.... I listened to the whole thing - to see where the author would go next. When I read the review, it sounded like an interesting storyline and the first chapter or two drew me in - people missing in the woods and a scary motel. But the sick, bloody ideas that this author created makes me actually wonder about him - how can an author even come up with this? Without telling too much about the actual story - it's totally far-fetched & unbelievable. The author relies on gore to create a 'story'. The narrator turned out to be just the right person to read this type of book - his voice is creepy and sounds like a back-hills sociopath. If you like blood & guts, are on the border of being a serial killer yourself and like to look at bloody accident scenes, then this book is for you.

Wicked fun!!!!

This fast-paced thriller is deliciously gory! Narrator Christoper Lee is amazing and gives an all-out performance. There are a wide variety of characters, from the Katherine Hepburn-esque grandmother to cleft-palate mutants and he makes them all come alive.

Yuck - couldn't even finish it. Ridiculous.

You know those stupid movies that you watch, scratch your head & say "well there's 2 hrs of my life wasted"? That's how I felt and I only listened to 30 mins. of this ridiculous book. It is SOOO predictable and one big backwoods cliche! Don't waste your money like I did - next..........
