Excellent Listen! Played like a movie in my mind!

I could conjure the images in my mind as the story read. I listened back 2 back & cant wait to start book 2. This topic and antiquity overall fascinates me. The bonus that the author gives at the end where he or the acknowledgements whatever it is called rounded everything up and blessed with new info so that was cool.

Fantastic narrator! Great story development

Robert does an phenomenal job narrating this story. Conn, once again is shaping up to provide another good historical fiction series. basically this whole book was largely an intro into the next book, so we will see where the series goes from here. looking forward to book 2 in the series.

Fast Moving Historical Fiction - Great Narration

Reminded me of a cross between Cornwell and Scarrow. If I had read (or listened to) Iggulden prior to Scarrow's work (I've only read Scarrow and listened to Iggulden works to date), I would have said that Scarrow was a cross between Cornwell and Iggulden. The fast moving, action-packed buddy-based story lines track in similar fashion as with all three of these authors. There is reasonable historical basis in Iggulden's work, as with the others. Emperor seems to take a quite a bit more license with regard to characters, but then, as the historical note states - we know little of Caesar's early life. Why not make him an early childhood pal of another historical character who would play a significant role later in his life? It is historical fiction, after all. Dialogue reminds me of Patrick O'Brien and Cornwell's Sharpe's series - feels a bit out of place for structure of Latin of the age and there's the modern phrase or two. Imagine yourself watching a movie with British actors and modern sentence structure - as opposed to what screenwriters for the 'Rome' and 'Spartacus' made-for-television series seem to have done. I think the dialogue was fine, though. Narrator was well-cast and his reading well-performed. I will be aware of and search out narration by Glenister again - for this series and for other works.

Absolute masterpiece

This is just one book of the many written by Iggulden, and they are all exceptional.

Fantastic Story

I love historical fiction and Conn Iggulden is a master of the genre as he has proven once again with this fantastical tale of Julias Ceasar. Although not much can truly be known of his early childhood, I often wonder how men of such historical significance grew up. Conn Iggulden gives a believable interpretation of the early years of Julias Ceasar and what made him the man he grew to be.
Excellent listen. Thanks Audible.
