Publisher's summary

"Robert Clinch loved his boat more that anything else in the world...more than his wife...his kids...his girlfiend...even more than the largemouth bass he was pursuing." Thus begins a twisted tale of murder in the world of big-stakes bass fishing tournaments. Filled with ex-wives, evangelists, and an armed pit-bull, this is a story that could only be concocted by Carl Hiaasen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and czar of Florida noir fiction.

Critic reviews

"The cast of bizarre characters and the suspenseful events confirm Hiaasen's reputation for creating singular villains and heroes. While he's probably unpopular among some fellow citizens in his home state, he will certainly please readers who appreciate the Swiftian wit in his cautionary tales." (Publishers Weekly)
"The action is swift, and there are some very funny scenes." (Library Journal)

Classic Hiaasen

Carl Hiaasen is knock-down funny and those who enjoy his brand of humor will not be disappointed with Double Whammy. The characters are great, the situations are hilariously unbelievable and the irreverence flows like honey. And George Wilson's narration is over the top. A great listen.

Good story narration not so much

Good story but the constant audible swallowing of the narrator detracted from presentation. He'd be good if he stopped swallowing saliva every 10 seconds.....

Laughed so hard I wet myself!

One day while listening to this book on my ipod at the gym I was laughing so hard i(it was during the "pitbull head as a braclet")someone asked my if I was okay. I nearly wet myself. I just loved the book. So funny! I have listened/read some real crappy mystery audiobooks and I was getting discouraged. I took a chance on this book. Well worth it!

Florida's Edward Abbey

It is fun to learn about Florida's environmental challenges woven around such colorful characters. Kinda funny about bass fishing too.

Addicting

This story started out slow and somewhat hokey. But the storyline and characters hooked me and kept realing me in. Once I got into it, I couldnt get out of the car and turn it off.

Hilarious

This was my second Carl Hiaasen book - what a hoot!!! His characters are so outrageous, you can't wait to see what's going to happen next. I listened to this book while working in my studio at school, and would laugh outloud it was so hilarious! Everyone around me thought I was a bit of a nut, but I had a great time.

The narration is on the "drole" side, and I loved it. It just adds to the humor. He makes it seem as if there's nothing unusual about a man losing his eye, and replacing it with a taxidermied owls eye! So funny!!

Over-the-top?

Decent enough mystery novel I suppose. However, a few of the characters were just a bit too strange. Eating roadkill was over-the-top.

Disengage all reason to listen!

This was not Hiaasen's best. This story line is so beyond any sense of belief as to be distracting. Zany is an understatement.

Dog Hand, Really?

I am generally a five star Hiaasen fan, but this one, published back in 2002, is over the edge weird in its grossness, especially dealing with domestic animals. Could have been about a third shorter as well.

Will read more from this author as I love the humor and craziness, just not Double Whammy craziness.
