"Nothing good ever happens at the butt-crack of dawn. No doubt, the headless corpse on the autopsy table in front of me would agree." – Violet Parker
Real estate agent Violet "Spooky" Parker stumbles upon a body-part theft ring at the local funeral parlor and suspects her caustic coworker has a hand in it - or maybe a foot. Can Violet discover what's in the crates that the crooks are sneaking out of the mortuary in the dark of night? Or will she end up in one of them herself - in pieces?

The writing in this series seems to get better with each book, but the heroine just seems like a dingbat sometimes. I keep holding on because I like the other characters and I want to see where the story is going, but the heroine's slowness to catch on gets pretty annoying. I guess I'm hoping the author writes her a little smarter as the writing improves in general. I may opt for the print books so I can just skate over the parts where she acts/ things like a bimbo.
What I like most about this book is the realistic dialogue. I know most people are offended by cursing, but the words aren't used gratuitously and it only adds spice and realism. This isn't the typical cozy mystery. There is paranormal activity and lots of sex. But, I love it anyway. I can't wait to read the next one.
Yes, it seems like a fun series. It was humorous with fun characters.
I don't know why but every time the old truck backfired startling either men or beasts it just cracked me up.
I started with this book, the third in the series, probably because it was on sale. It wasn't a problem but I will go back to the first 2 books and then continue on with the series, A fine light read, and a series with potential.
I never would have bought this book (Kindle-Audible combo) had I known the mystery involved ghosts and who-knows-what-other paranormal plot elements. I stopped reading after the first ghost appears. As a matter of faith I actively avoid such stories.
I appreciate that most books are upfront about what they are in the description or series title. This book gave no clue. I'm conflicted about assigning a star rating. I've always thought it unfair when someone reviews a book negatively when the book is in a genre outside their interest. Like a romance reader faulting a work of historical fiction for having "long boring sections of facts"! Since this is outside my genres of interest, I don't think it fair to give this book a low rating. So I will go neutral with 3s. I'm writing this review for the benefit of others like me who steer clear of paranormal.
Trouble more trouble

All of them
Violet gets into trouble, again.
The series is a great series to listen to or even read.
I found myself laughing at violets thoughts and antics more times then I can say. long car rides and walks are a must. I have 5 books and the two shorts. can't wait for the next installment. I just wish the audio kept up with the ebooks.
