Publisher's summary

"As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I'm still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me...."

Memories define us.

So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep?

Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love - all forgotten overnight.

And the one person you trust may be telling you only half the story.

Welcome to Christine's life.

Kept Me Guessing

I loved this book and I recommend it to anyone who likes fiction with a bite. The author keeps your attention all the way through and you just can't walk away. It's frustrating at times because you actually begin to feel the main character's anxiety. It reminds me of "The Usual Suspects" in that you *think* you know what's going on...but you don't.

There are quite a few unnecessary *f*bombs and sensational-like lines that have no effect on the story. We listened in the car and just laughed out loud at the silliness of some of the sensational lines. Be warned if you're listening without earbuds.

I didn't notice the echo-issues other readers have mentioned. Sounded great to me.

It Grabbed Me!

I was thoroughly engrossed in this book and couldn't wait to keep reading/listening to see how it ended! I love that anticipation! I thought the premise was somewhat unbelievable, however it was written in such a way that it was convincing, so I just let myself go and went along for the ride. It was also perhaps a little too long - too much back and forth on the part of the "unreliable narrator." That did work to confuse me about how it would turn out, though, so it kept me guessing and listening. Overall it was a really fun read.

Great story with narration making it come to life!

Would you consider the audio edition of Before I Go to Sleep to be better than the print version?

Yes actually I would. The narrator, Orlagh Cassidy is really fantastic. She made the story so much more mysterious. I've never thought of this until after I finished this book, but a good narrator who obviously knows the story can really lead you on with their voice. I could not "put my earbuds" down.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't want to give it away here so I'll just say that I liked Christine best.

What about Orlagh Cassidy’s performance did you like?

Everything. The mystery in her voice was excellent. She did not give anything away and made me wonder the entire time what was really going on. I loved her performance and am now looking for other books narrated by her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Keeps you wondering!

Thrilling and Compelling

First of all, the narrator is brilliant!
I love the twists and turns. I wish someone would make this into a movie. This is the second time I've listened to this story over the past couple years. I had forgotten about all the amazing details and the ways this story morphed its way into existence. I highly recommend it!

Just enough details without getting carried away, keeps you guessing and speculating all the way through.

simply perfect!

good first novel

First time author for me, debut novel for the author, SJ Watson. I have to admit up front I bought this novel as the author is my namesake, first and last name, different middle initial, no relation. But it is rated 4.0 on the 5.0 audible scale and it is a genre I enjoy. I call the genre a psychological thriller. Set in London, the protagonist, Christine, suffered a traumatic brain injury over 20 years ago and has suffered from amnesia ever since. Slowly but surely, these twenty plus years later and with the help of a doctor, she starts recovering her memory, good and bad. The story is how it all unfolds.

After starting the book I realized a movie based on the book, starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, was produced in 2014. I'll have to check it out.

Love love!

Nice plot twists. A few we're predictable but oddly enough it added to the suspense.
