History has its limits

The author has a heart for the hardship of the Civil War. She has exceptional skill in her writing. Thoughts of the truth of what it means to forgive and believe in God even when life is so difficult to understand.

Great story of forgiveness & grace.

I enjoyed the story with perspectives of both the freed slaves & the ladies after the war. This story gave insight into the struggles of both. I love how God’s story & his love for us is intertwined with each character’s lives & the struggles felt with understanding that love. Great story of forgiveness & grace.

Another gem

Where does All Things New rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've been a huge Lynn Austin fan. The authenticity, solid research, and strong foundation in faith make her novels standouts among my other listens. I really appreciated her thoughtful portrayal of the post-Civil War experiences and the struggle of the genteel southerners to accept and move-on.

What did you like best about this story?

Ms. Austin's characters are always extremely well developed. The characters who carry the message of faith are realistic and have struggled with the same issues as the characters attempting to make it through life without that solid faith. I love her strong female characters. They are always strong and challenged in believable ways.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think Josephine's bravery and willingness to find a way to get a message to the government agent was a very compelling scene.

If you could take any character from All Things New out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would really like to meet Lizzie and Eli to hear firsthand of their struggles and challenges.

Any additional comments?

I did my best to read Lynn Austin's books in historical order. They provide an excellent opportunity to experience the events that shaped our lives today.

What a great listening experience

It only goes to show a good book can be written without sex and profanity. In my opinion that is a sure sign of a first class novelist like mrs Lynn Austin. Her story was so good no gratuitous fillers were needed. She showed the good in those who truly trusted God and waited in HIS Leading I love antebellum civil war stories and she is one of the best along with Gilbert Morris

STORY OF FORGIVNESS

What made the experience of listening to All Things New the most enjoyable?

Seeing how tragedy and hatred destroys so many lives but if we allow God to change even just a few hearts we can make a difference by reacting to the pain through forgiving. Seeing how God has His hand on us in the worst of times. This book captivated me and kept my interest all the way to the end.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Josephine , Eugina and Lizzie and Otis. Josephine was humble in spirit and made right choices and stepped out of her comfort zone to make a difference. Her mother dropped her pride and also made right choices to make a difference when it was totally against everything she knew. Otis was the rock in the story and Lizzie and all learned from his kind spirit and great man of faith.

Have you listened to any of Robin Miles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not and she was incredible and I enjoyed the story more because of her many talented voices to make each character special.

If you could take any character from All Things New out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Otis as he is the one I could learn from the most and gain insight into walking with the Lord in the most difficult of times.

Any additional comments?

Yes to the author your books encourage and give me great pleasure listening to the scriptures and living the stories with the characters. Keep writing and I will keep listening.

I could not put this down!

Lynn Austin is a gifted author, with the heart of an empath. Her historical novels shine a brilliant light on past events, making them come alive in the imaginations of her readers. The characters in her stories are built with great depth and insight, and though never "preachy" or overbearing, they stir my heart to want to do things that matter. "All Things New" is my new favorite historical novel. This story kept me up far past my bedtime, and was well worth the lost sleep, for the gain of a better understanding of some of the difficulties of life immediately following the Civil War.

Suspenseful to the End

Loved this book....excellent follow up to Lynn Austin's Civil War Trilogy. The voice performance was spot on and added much to the novel. Nothing was sugar coated in this novel. It was real and gritty which made the resolve for a real peace in the end that much sweeter. As always, Austin's books turns a spotlight on my own heart and causes me to examine my own views.
