Poignant story

Loved this story although it was painful at times to hear how horrible the slaves were treated. Loved the reader. Such a great job!!!

Gut-Wrenching

Lynn Austin does an amazing job at researching her stories. I am not one to get teary when reading a story but Lynn Austin has been able to bring me to tears on multiple occasions.

I’m sad this is the last book in the series. I want to know the “rest of the story” about all of the characters in the series!!!

One of my favorite books!!

I almost gave up on this book. I was a little put off by the narrator's voice as young Grady. The story starts out in North Carolina and ends in South Carolina and the narrator didn't use a southern accent for any of the characters. But I let that go and decided to give the book a chance. Boy, am I glad I did!! The story is wonderfully written and I fell in love with Anna (Kitty) and Grady as well as Dehlia. I want to give a big shout out to Lynn Austin. This book has given me so much to think about and so much to be grateful for. I just finished listening to it again and I love it even more than the first time I listened. I just downloaded Lynn Austin's "A Candle In The Darkness". I can't wait to start listening.

Hope there is another in this series

From the first book - Candle In The Dark - to this one, I have fallen in love with all the characters and I want to know more about each one! A must read for anyone who wants to feel the strife and sorrows as well as the saving graces and joys in this historical fiction of the civil war

nice and easy read

the book was intriguing and very believable however I felt that if the narrator was African-American the story would have held more weight
