Publisher's summary

Spencer Quinn’s first original audio short story reveals how everyone’s favorite detective duo - Chet the Dog and P.I. Bernie Little - came to meet before their first big case in Dog On It. As fans know, Chet first met Bernie on that fateful day when he flunked out of K-9 police school. The details of that day, though, have always remained a little vague (like so much in Chet’s doggy brain). All we know is that Chet had been the best leaper in his K-9 class, but for some reason he failed his final leaping test...and that a cat was involved...and that there was some blood. But whose?

The test, the cat, the blood - all pieces of a puzzle that, when solved, will bring down a dangerous gang of thieves - and signal the start of a beautiful friendship. This fateful day has been alluded to in every book in the series, and now fans of Chet and Bernie will finally get to find out what actually happened. For these two beloved characters, it was something like love at first sight - and, for Chet, at first smell, too.

borrow it

I recommend you borrow this title if possible. As it was on sale for one dollar I’m not returning it, but…
Yes it’s worth it if you love the series as it covers when Chet meets Bernie.
I’ve always liked Frangione’s voice so his narration always rates higher.

These stories never let me down!

Absolutely love hearing the story from Chet, the dog's, point of view. So funny and action packed. Couldn't put it down. Once you meet Chet, you will find it really hard to wait for what him and Bernie will do next.

Chet, do you know the word "serendipity"?

Great story for all those who love Chet and Bernie. I can't decide if it is best read after several of the full-length books or first. Perhaps after.

Ah, Chet, and what if that cat had not been there? Silver linings and all that.

Jim Frangione, can you come be my dog?

Wonderful adventurous and heartwarming!

A Cat Was Involved
(Chet and Bernie Mystery)
By Spencer Quinn
I loved how this story unfolded. It introduced the characters in a unique fashion and it was mostly told by the point of view of the dog, Chet. Since Chet is a smart dog but still a dog, he can't talk. So many chances go by if only Chet and Bernie knew each other's cues better.
Excellent mystery for such a small story and a great taste of what is to come!

Noir Style

Chet was in police dog training when he sees two thugs steal a car with a cat inside. Then he flunks the jump test whe he’s distracted by the same cat. Left with Bernie for the night they go on a ride to find the cat and car. Great prequel and narration.

Chet the Jet no meets Bernie

Great series. Into to how Bernie Little got his dog Chet. The others are longer in length. Good thing.

good fun read

Fun story, just like the full length mysteries. It was great hearing how these two detectives met. Listened with my family, really a good time!

Chet tells all.

I have ready every Chet & Bernie mystery and loved them all. This one was so much fun. The narration is superb. I don't look at my dog the same after Getting to know Chet!
