She’ll give everything to protect her family.

He always knew she was the one.

Veterinary tech Pepper Miller lives a quiet life in Last Chance County. She’s watching her niece until her sister shows up...if she ever does. When Victory’s father demands he take over her care, Pepper knows something has gone wrong. With a new drug in town, and her sister embroiled in a dangerous bargain, it’s up to Pepper to protect the people she loves.

Even if it costs every secret she’s ever kept.

Fire Department liaison Allen Frees lives with the injuries he sustained as a police officer in a raid gone wrong. He’s put his life back together but getting the truck crew and engine squad to succeed might be his toughest assignment yet. When Victory is nearly kidnapped at a community event, Allen steps in to help Pepper keep her niece safe. The one thing he couldn’t fix was the love he lost, but he isn’t going to let Pepper walk away this time.

No matter what walls he has to break down.

Last Chance County returns in this blazing new series from Sunrise Publishing.

Pepper is exhausting

The character Pepper is emotionally exhausting. Stuck in tiresome cycle of guilt and pushing Alan away. But I found the story is quite good besides that. And I enjoyed the narrator.

Another great book by Lisa Phillips

Great start to this new series. Relatable characters with problems and flaws, just like the rest of us. Lisa never fails to draw you into the stutter and the lives of the characters. I hope Allen and Pepper keep showing up in future books as well as previous “friends” from Last Chance.
The only negative is having to wait for the next one.
I struggled with the narration. He did the narration and two main characters fine but the accents and intonations on the other characters had me gritting my teeth at times. Especially the characters from the previous series. Didn’t match their characters at all and was especially annoying when so vastly different from what they were in previous books. He’s got a great voice though.

Very entertaining suspense and performance

This is a very entertaining suspense book with great characters, suspense, action, and a clean romance. The story moves along at a good pace and I really enjoyed it. The performance is very good.

Loved the story, but not the narration.

The story was great, but the narration was not so great. There are several characters from a prior series like Conrad and Tate, and this narrator made them sound old and stupid.

Great story!

This story flows well with twists & turns plus has some great suspense!
Being Christian based, there are no sex scenes or vulgar language! This is a great listen!!

Too short!

I enjoyed this book. I’ve read several by this author. I’d like to read the rest of this series but I have a hard time spending a credit on something under 8 hrs. Credits aren’t cheap and I’d rather have a longer storyline.

Clean and Wholesome

Dear audible please add clean and wholesome label. The story was good, but the constant reference about God takes away from romance
