Publisher's summary

It’s never too soon to take your next breath.

Behind tinted windows a few yards from mourning family and friends, Jessica and Jude Day witness their parents’ funeral - and their own. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.

Six months and two new identities later, the 30-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip.

Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.

Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul - the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed.

Her chance for redemption comes in the form of a next-door neighbor, one senior master sergeant Monaghan. He’s sexy, dangerously alluring, and riddled with emotional issues from years of service. He’s also so damn grumpy.

Their mission is simple: let go, start over, don't kill anyone, and pray that nobody resurrects their past.

"This book is phenomenal! My favorite read of 2015. Don't read anything else about it. Just buy it. Now." (Ella James, USA Today best-selling author)

Just okay

I am not entirely sure that my mediocre feelings on this one aren't all about my recent book-mood. Coming off a long week of starting and stopping books, I needed to stick with End of Day because of a challenge, so I may have been subconsciously resisting enjoying it. Whatever it was, I just never connected, and reading the blurb/reviews on the next book, I'm not sure that I'll be continuing on with the series.

The writing was good, I'm just really not a fan of the back and forth timelines. Also good narration, but (and this is for the rest of the series) if I continue on, I hope that we get dual narration when we get more involved with the other characters.

DNF.

I didn’t finished this book. After almost six hours into listening, 64% reading, I was so confused. Is this a love triangle? Why is the female character making men bleed? She’s with sleeping with her neighbor AJ and chasing her therapist Dr. Luke. I just don’t get the story at all, I was frustrated, bored and tired of the female character’s childish behavior. I love this author but this book wasn’t for me.

Fin de journee

I've been thinking real hard how to summarise the book or write this review. The story is expansive but quite contained in settings. intricate & dark yet delightfully funny. It's emotionally exhaustive, yet physically ferocious and passionately replenishing. Mindtwister but still very enticing. Hence my dilemma which box to put this story in?
One of those kinds of books, where you're physically glued to the book, head burrowed deep in the words and temptation to cancel any plans of going out, showering or eating is very strong. The story is so engaging and captivating, I had to turn the pages and keep going, ignoring all the chores.
It's one of her earlier book if I'm not wrong, and you can already see she is a maestro of words. This series sets the stage for many other books to come. The characters from this series go forth and get their own books, spreading jewel's genius everywhere.

The first scene just hooked me. From then on I was in a hurry to unravel the mystery of alluring Red booted Jessica/Jillian. She's like a succulent lollipop dangling in front of Senior Master Seargent AJ Monhaghan, her next door neighbour. Oh so sexy, brooding, temperamental and owner of a strong, ripped bod. Jillian is drooling in no time and when two stubborn people get attracted, clangs of clashes can be heard all over.

“You’re effed-up.”
“Pot. Kettle. Black.”

Story is simple on the surface but very complicated underneath.
Jack(son) & Jill(ian) have been relocated, kinda like WitPro and they must blend in the near adult quiet community in Omaha-Nebraska.
Luke is left behind, why?....(i think I'll find out in next book) and a piece of her sanity too. She's trying to move on and forward but sometimes past words still echo in her empty, numb heart.

"It’s like the thrill seeker who goes full throttle all the time, never fearing death because eight seconds of that rush is worth more than eighty years of boring monotony. Luke was my eight seconds.”

The moment this scantily clad, sexbomb sets her foot in Peaceful Woods, men loose their peace of mind. She's a Lolita for older residents.
There's two parallel stories running, that of Jessica Maeve Day and Jillian knight.
The relocation of Jessica is supposed to be a rebirth of sorts for her. Wipe the slate clean and start afresh. But she still carries the troublesome virus inside of her which is screwing with her needs and wants. Bites & Blood are her urges and she's falling off the wagon.

when she couldn’t mentally or emotionally handle a situation, she tried to physically control it. AJ was clearly one of those situations.
I was so fascinated by Jewel's deep dive into the psychological problems of the traumatic minds, it's like i stumbled upon a secret door to the dank, dark basement. I was scared to go down and yet my feet kept moving!!!
Story jumps past and present in alternating chapter. The simultaneous stories are helpful in showing the transformation of Jill from where she was to where she is now!.
Whys and wherefores become clearer as the story races ahead and it ends on a very crucial juncture. I need to dive back fastest cause I need to know how far she will go to bring closure(if there is any) and what happens to Jack from now on.
Who survives and HOW MUCH!
🎶She took me back to the start!🎶

Very interesting

Loved the premise of the book and I’ll definitely recommend and continue on to the next but I just wished it had a male narrator as well.

I have been waiting for this book to come out on audio for....forever! the story was funny and emotional and pulled me in from the first words. What a wonderful book! I don't remember listening to any other books narrated by Stefanie Kay and was very pleasantly surprised. She did a GREAT job and I would give her 10 stars! Jewel E Ann is one of my favorite authors and this is one of her BEST!

10 hours for a maybe 2 hour story

This story didn’t start picking up until maybe the last 2-3 hours. That’s when we were introduced to the inklings of what the issues were. Still not sure why they were in the predicament they were.

I only listened because I had actually wasted money on purchasing the book. Then it just cut off in a cliffhanger. I’m not even invested nor challenged enough to consider the next book.

Keep in mind this dealt with PTSD and a kidnapping with trigger behavior.

Must be love on the brain…

I enjoyed End of Day. I assumed there would be more suspense considering all the things I’ve heard about this series, and the spin off books I’ve read, but it is very much focused on Jessica/Jillian diving into and adjusting (sorta) to her new life with her twin brother Jude/Jackson. She’s having to let go of a past she finally started to love and live in and embrace this new reality of hers. It’s definitely difficult for her, but she finds sort of an outlet and a mirror in her new neighbor. She’s trying to be for him what someone else once was for her. It’s intriguing to me in that aspect, but I have a hard time seeing where this can go considering I have some spoilers since I read Out of Love first.

I will say the voice actress did a phenomenal job with this story. I tried to read this as an ebook at least four times and could not get past the first few chapters because I just can’t read 3rd POV. The voice actor had me engaged and brought the story to life for me. Can’t wait to read the next two books!
