Publisher's summary

As Kingfall’s fuse burns ever closer to the powder keg of all-out war, the secrets of the godblades are slowly unsheathed.

In Travail, Dane and Peony face usurpers and a scheme by those seeking to overthrow the dragon throne, forcing Peony to flee to Solarii with Daneus to request help from the Dead King. In Teravainen, Jarrod must face his demons and learn how to rule in the wake of his father’s murder. When the darkblades are stolen, he is forced to ride south seeking retribution, while a newly graduated mage named Quill is sent by Aeromand to investigate.

Meanwhile, as Amari begins her search for Sampson, her path crosses that of another lost soul in the unlikeliest of places. And when Ando leads his hardy band of misfit soldiers into Solarii, an unexpected enemy is there waiting for him. Looming in the darkness is a growing evil that threatens the entire continent, whether innocent or otherwise.

eye rolling narration

Tim Reynolds is not the best narrator. His depiction of accents sounds almost like a monotone robot. I do love this the writing of David Estes and will listen to megafall. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot due to Reynolds.

Even better sequel

I really am enjoying this epic. David Estes has done a fantastic job of character development and story progression. He keeps you guessing what is next, and Tim Gerrard Reynolds doesn't disappoint with his performance.

Couldn't stop listening!

Love love love these books! I wish the books would turn into a Netflix series or something. I just want to see everything I'm picturing in my mind played out in front of my eyes. Seriously so good!

Read it!

I loved the story, very well written and performed. However, many times I grew frustrated with the naïveté of the characters. Many times they went into situations that could have been avoided if they had a lick of sense or actually stopped to think properly about their actions. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I guess that it was needed to propel the story forward maybe? Or maybe it's just that the books I've been reading for the past year have had more analytical characters so I just became accustomed to that. Aside from this small flaw, I loved the relationship between Ando and his men, and Peony, Dane, Daneus and her light blade. I also loved the world setting and the demons' descriptions really reminded me of those from the Devil May Cry game series. (Wonder if the author is a fan 🤭) Definitely give it a try. I'm directly starting the 3rd book.

Masterpiece

This is in my opinion this is a masterpiece. Each character is intentional, carefully crafted, and deeply written. David writes his characters to transform from book to book. They are flawed, beautiful, ugly and magnificent. It’s amazing see how much real life experiences such as pain hurt and loss contribute so much to the growth of each character. After reading Kingfall you will have a favorite character. By the end of Dragonfall your least favorite character of Kingfall will be in your top three. This is without a doubt a high fantasy book, however nothing is cliche. After reading so many fantasy books I have a sense of what’s going to happen. This doesn’t seem the case here. (Most of the time 😏) You will find hints of your favorite fantasy series here with a twist. I have found that there is no one main character of the series. But each character is the main character playing an inter-woven weave that creates the entire fabric of the story. Some characters I didn’t like that much and others were my favorites but each character connected and came together within the story that makes for a great experience. Another thing I like about David’s writing is that you don’t have to wait years for the telling of the tale. He writes with the end already in mind, so you get a well written complex storyline that solidifies itself in your memory, months later the next book is written and you don’t have to reread an entire book to keep up.

The book is not without flaws. Verbal and physical abuse, loss, human greed will emotionally capture you, and in some cases travel a little to close to home. Certain human conditions will be address without any underline agenda. I know this because the author has a way of allow you to see things from multiple perspectives, with even the so called villains. I have became emotionally attached and downright upset with the way that the story was told concerning some characters, then I realized how invested, captured and enthralled I became with the story. The series has taken me as if I were owner of a Bright Blade and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.

The story is great but there is a lot of characters

This book is good, but I believe the author wrote too many characters into the book. One of the main characters from the first book, Samson, isn’t even in the book. Also he skips around a lot just to get in the stories of side characters.

excellent story

Just about the time you think really bad stuff is going to happen someone comes to save the day. I'm waiting to see what happened to Darian.

Great Fantasy Book!

I like this series even more than Fatemarked which I thought was excellent and I really enjoyed both. This series feels doesn't feel as spread out as the first one even though it's in the same world. it's not skipping around quite as much and I think it helps with immersion into the book.
