Publisher's summary

Hit woman and thief Reed Gable works for the highest bidder, no matter where the job takes her. An orphan of circumstance, Reed knows the streets of Las Vegas better than anyone. Growing up rough has gotten her to the top of her profession, and she plans to stay there.

Accountant Brinley Myers, a recent hire at the Moroccan Casino, discovers a money laundering operation orchestrated by the New York mob, and suddenly, her life and the people in it become collateral damage.

Reed has Brinley in her sights and is ready to close the contract when she sees Brinley’s son in the car with her. Even hard-hearted Reed can’t kill a mother in front of her child. Before Reed can come up with a plan to finish the job, she’s double-crossed. It’ll take all her street smarts to keep herself, and her surprisingly beautiful mark, alive.

character overload

The story is great but following the many character introductions is difficult. The first few chapters gives the reader a heavy dose of introduction to many players and sometimes makes the story difficult to follow. That being said, the plot came together well and I was surprised to find that although the web spun in this story is vast, its also based on a thoughtful calculation of intrigue and drama.

Excellent!

I loved Double Crossed: A Vegas Nights Novel. Yes, we do love our female heroes. A great story about a situation you hope to never find yourself in. Loved the tie ins to the Cain Casey books. Paige McKinney did a great job with the narration.

Ali Vali hit another one out of the park.

I loved this book. The narration wasn't the greatest and made me want to double buy the book so I could read it myself but the story made it worth listening to her.

Gritty And Real

I felt like I needed a shower after listening to this book but not in a bad way. I just had been immersed in a grimy crime underworld where everyone had their moral compass at least a little askew. Even both main characters were a little off true north and most characters hadn't seen their compass in a looooong time.

Good story

I read the book when it came out and really enjoyed it. It was pretty solid as all of Ali's books are. Paige did an average job in her narration. I have my favorite narrators and tend to stick to those books but I loved this book when I read it and thought I'd give it a shot. Paige wasn't extremely bad but I would have definitely enjoyed audio much more had it been read by someone else. There were some places where I couldn't tell who was speaking as the voice sounded the same. The book though, was a pleasure to read. Can't wait for the sequel.

Great story! Awesome audio

I read this book a month ago and since I really enjoyed it I thought I’d try the audiobook! Wow! Paige McKinney really brought the story to another level. I would love this story to be a series. There’s so much more to learn about Reed. I can totally see her becoming good friends with Remi and Cain. Great job!

Narrator need to get more into the different characters

Story was very good. Narration not so much. No emotions on her voice with different characters & situations just a different and sometimes boring tone of voice.
