Publisher's summary

Lethal operative Scot Harvath is dispatched to avenge the killing of American citizens abroad in #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor’s new pulse-pounding thriller.

In the war-ravaged borderlands of Ukraine, a Russian mercenary unit has gone rogue. Its members, conscripted from the worst prisons and mental asylums across Russia, are the most criminally violent, psychologically dangerous combatants to ever set foot upon the modern battlefield.

With all attention focused on the frontlines, they have pushed deeper into the interior to wage a campaign of unspeakable barbarity. As they move from village to village, committing horrific war crimes, they meet little resistance as all able-bodied men are off fighting the war.

Simultaneously, a team of Russian soldiers has been dispatched by the Kremlin to loot truckloads of art and priceless cultural treasures hidden away in a host of churches, museums, and private homes.

When multiple American aid workers are killed, America’s top spy, Scot Harvath, is sent in to settle the score. But in a country so vast, will Harvath be able to find the men in question and, more importantly, will he be able to stop them before they can kill again?

Not the best in the series, but still a fan.....

4.5 Stars

Well, it goes without saying that this is one of my favorite authors and one of my favorite series. With that being said, of course I'm going to love it. But....this book did feel a bit, well, ....short.

It didn't seem to have the depth of plotline that we have come to expect from this series. Truly though, I'm okay with that. I LOVED dropping back into the world of Scot Harvath's latest mission and having a couple of hours to be immersed in the world as he was plunged into the war in Ukraine. The narration was spot on, as Armand Schultz has completely become the voice of this series.

But, it did feel a bit thin.... Yes, I enjoyed being a fly on the wall as we got to get a peek into the happenings in this real time war in real time as things were going on, but I left feeling less than satisfied. Without going into spoilers, I wanted to know a little bit more about the results of his mission. Tell me more about Anna, and the twins. It just felt like, "okay, this happened and then this happened.....the end"

Seriously? I wanted to know a little bit more about the human aspect of the mission. I LOVED getting to see more of the Little Man and his dogs, but with that being said, couldn't we get a better mission brief at the end?

Anyway, even with everything that I wish could be better, this is still one of my favorite series and I truly enjoy every time I see a new book out in this world.

So...I guess now the wait is on for book 23....

Wow, book 23, isn't that crazy?

A Little Nonsensical

Incredibly difficult battles with unbelievable outcomes. A spy story with little mystery to it. The melding of the two rather weak.

Not BT's best work

To me, it was just a Russian bashing book from start to finish. Missing that action feeling we are used to in previous books. Narration was great, as usual.

Disappointed

Kinda boring. Not like the old Brad Thor’s. Kept waiting for the 2 stories to connect

Intense and exciting story

I’ve been a fan of Brad Thor since 2007. This new one is a very powerful and intense story. He hit it out of the park once again.

One of the best in the genre

C McCall

Both the story and narration were great as always! I would recommend all the books in the Scot Harvath series.

Worst of the series

I’ve read and listened to the Scot Harvath series twice in full, and this is the worst of the group. Timely re Ukraine, but the story was weak and action weaker. There isn’t a single surprise, almost like this title was ruched out as a cash grab rather than a meaningful title in the series meant to lead to the next. Jack Carr is now superior to Brad Thor.

Brad Thor for the win again

Brad Thor has created one of the enduring characters of the techno thriller genre. Never count Harvath out.

Brad Thor is always great. However, this is not one of his best ones.

I always love listening to a Brad Thor book. However I lost interest in this story a few times. But overall I’d still recommend this book.

Good but some loose ends

Enjoyed this book but too many loose ends for my liking. Perhaps left this way for the next book
