Publisher's summary

Easwaran takes the timeless teachings of the Buddha and other mystics and tells us how we can train the mind not just during meditation but throughout the day.

Feeling trapped by unwanted thoughts and emotions can seem an inevitable part of life. But Easwaran, who taught meditation for 40 years, teaches us a way to break free.

Just as a fitness routine can create a strong, supple body, spiritual disciplines can shape a secure personality and a resilient, loving mind. Writing as an experienced, friendly coach, Easwaran takes the timeless teachings of the Buddha and other mystics and tells how we can train the mind not just during meditation but throughout the day.

Working with difficult colleagues, choosing what to eat, and listening to a child’s needs are all opportunities to try out different, wiser responses. Easwaran describes how training the mind is a glorious challenge - one that brings joy and purpose to life.

This audiobook contains the first 10 chapters of the print book, but omits the last three chapters which were added in 2010.

Worth its weight in gold

The book is an effective and practical road map for strengthening the mind. I was able to put weekly steps into practice so I liked this book.
The accent being british is not easy for all Indians to understand perhaps. But the reader is excellent too.

Written simply and clearly in language a child can understand. Inspiring and exceptional. So are ALL his other books!

For those who really want to free the clutter of the mind. Truly Inspiring!

Among the numerous spiritual sources, Easwaran appealed to me as a modern, practical, reasonable and above all pragmatic one.

His language is simple but full of confidence. He gives you good reason for everything that he suggests instead of just imposing thoughts and ideas.

Fascinating, and capable of changing lives!

Good, but simple

Although I enjoyed the 'read,' the book can be summarized in eight words: meditate for a half hour early every morning. Worthy of your time, but not profound.
