Publisher's summary

Efrem "Coleslaw" White is a video game tester and college student. He was on a tropical vacation with a diverse group of strangers, classmates, and friends when disaster struck.

The next thing he knew, he was standing before a huge, floating man introducing himself as the god Dolos, and being given a second chance at life. There was a catch, though. There is always a catch.

Now Cole will need to convince all the people he's trapped with that violence is not the answer, suggesting that they all to work together to endure their death game. If he fails, he'll have to figure out how to survive on a deadly island with a shrinking, burning energy dome overhead.

Cole's MMA training and video game knowledge doesn't seem like much to rely on against mutated monsters and psychopaths with supernatural powers. If the island becomes a war of survival like he fears, he's going to have several very serious problems to deal with...fast.

Great Addition to the Delvers LLC Universe

Long time listener and reader, first time reviewer. I really liked this book, it's a great addition to the Delvers LLC universe and a nice self contained story, but I am excited to see where it might go from here. Loved how it explored the characters motivations and unique uses of their power sets.

A Very Interesting Book.

I really have a quandary in regards to this book. The writing is excellent and I love the characters and the characterization. But it is a brutal book! Things happen to the main characters that are just hard to take. It was a good book but I really can’t say that I enjoyed it. Also I tend to go back to books I don’t see myself returning to this book.
The narration was excellent. I will listen to a 2nd book but I something more positive than only one survivor.

A bit different

Battle royal is a tricky subject, but this was done alright. the Dolos tie in is a little loose, but it works as an introduction to Coleslaw. I'll buy the next one's in this storyline, if that means anything.

not a Blaise Corvin book

i went in to this thinking this was a BC book (which is entirely on me), so I was a little disappointed and confused by the writing style and such...
however this IS a entertaining book and I did learn to enjoy it despite the bad start which should tell you something about what Outspan and Blaise have put together and it's quality...

Ryan does a great job with the narration and several times I even forgot there were a narrator and just zoned in on the start...

Say it right!

For the love of The Great God Dolos learn how to say tsunami. It is not pronounced toonami. Even the western sunami would have been better FOR THE LOVE OF CRAP!

good if a little predictable

the story is good and action well written, but some of the characters fall flat. and the whole story predicts itself and repeats the predictions over and over again. might have been better as the short story it started as.

Story sucks but good writing.

This storyline truly sucked but the writing was not bad. The story was not up to a Delvers or even a Nora book. The basic premise that makes the storyline so bad is the idea that old friends and companions would turn on each other so radically and lose their sanity so quickly. Plus the main characters personality is kind of abrasive and not as likable as many of the other main characters from the authors other stories.

Great idea falls flat on delivery

I was really looking forward to a new book on this universe (not sure that's what it is called). I enjoyed the start of the book. The concept was sound and enjoyable. The twist at the end was neat and unexpected. Sadly, the explanation on how it was possible fell short of making sense. The very end was great too. Most of the rest of the book was a bit tiresome. I have been unable to clearly articulate why the majority of the story fell flat for me.

Enjoyable

If you approach this expecting a Delvers LLC experience, you will probably be disappointed. Just take it as a standalone book that just happens to be in the same universe and revolves around a death game with a sprinkle of gamelit elements. I do have some complaints like in the believability of some of the characters or that the length was too short for the characters to really grow on me, but I liked it overall. It's just too bad they're unlikely to continue this series considering it's been a few years since its release.
